I found the Casa Costa Bake Shop online today and decided to check it out for the first time, thinking it would be great to find a good go-to dessert place. I got there and it was super crowded. The selections looked pretty good, including some gluten-free treats. I ordered and paid $25 for five items. They joked about people not always getting all their order items, and then finished packing my food and handed me the sack. I drove all the way home to Liberty Hill. I unpacked the baked goods and discovered that they had only given me three of the five items. I called the store and the guy I spoke with kept having problems hearing me on the phone. He said they were out of the gluten free oatmeal cream pie that I had paid $5 for, but that he could set the $1.50 snickerdoodle cookie to the side for me. He said it would take him a long time to find my receipt in the system for a remote refund, but that they would give me an alternate for the oatmeal cream pie, or a refund, plus something extra for my troubles if I just came back. I drove all the way back and a woman was behind the counter. She already knew about the situation. She carefully eyed my receipt and acted like I was trying to pull something over on them. The only thing they had left was gluten free muffins so I opted for a refund for the oatmeal cream pie. She gave me the snickerdoodle and acted annoyed and tried to have me leave the store without making sure the refund was applied. I said I would wait for the refund receipt. I commented again about having to drive all the way to Liberty Hill and back. She offered a perfunctory apology but nothing extra to make up for it. It took her a while to do the refund but she gave me the receipt and then kinda dismissed me. Like she couldn’t get me out of the store fast enough so she could deal with the next people in line. She didn’t even offer to give me an extra cookie or anything. The gas and time I spent going back cost more than what they gave me for my troubles - which was nothing. I of course was the only black customer in the store on both occasions. Based upon my experience I wonder if the initial oversight was intentional or on purpose, and also whether the woman I spoke with when I came back acted the way she did because of my skin color. I called back to speak to the owner or manager and found out the manager was the woman I had dealt with. The owner wont be back for three days. I still haven’t even tasted any of the baked goods yet so I don’t know how their food is. It’ll probably be hard by the time I get back home. I felt really dismissed as a customer and don’t ever want to come here again.

After I got home I tasted the desserts. The only thing that tasted good was the buttered pecan cheesecake. The snickerdoodle was overly sweet and too doughy. The blueberry muffin had no flavor and the glaze on top was too sweet. And the red velvet cupcake was absolutely disgusting. It was too dense and tasted like earwax, and the cream cheese frosting was too sweet. Had to...
Read moreAfter living in Leander for a few years, we finally decided to come into this much raved about place. Our intention was to inquire and if possible order a customized cake then eat some goodies. Our whole family came along on a weekday afternoon where there was only about 3 patrons in the store eating at two separate tables. The staff were pleasant and nice but told us that they were not able to accommodate our cake request as they need weeks in advance order and we only had a week. This has not been a problem for us in the past but here we are in Leander so we accept the fact that they are busy since there is not much competition around. Then as we were looking at all the baked goodies, our excitement quickly faded away as we saw flies hovering ALL OVER all the displayed baked goods out in the counter. And all I could think off is where have these flies been prior to landing on those items? This is highly unsanitary and won't even pass inspection standards in many other places. Then the staff were pushing some few days old super dried baked goods. Really?! You shouldn't be even selling those yucky goods anymore or donate them BEFORE they actually become unpleasant to eat. We just wanted to walk away but my little kids insisted on something so we decided on the refrigerated section with hopefully no fly surviving that temperature. My daughter chose one cupcake. By the time I had to pay for this one cupcake, it was $7.00! Are you freaking kidding me? So I decided to take a bite from it and here I am writing this review. I do not know if the overpriced not great tasting cupcake experience was better or worse than the flies swarming all the baked goods?! I won't be returning. There was also nothing that was really healthy - gluten free, vegan stuff. I guess it has great reviews to date because the area it serves has pretty low expectations and there is not much...
Read moreCame from out of town and stayed within walking distance. We were excited to try the pastries but were left disappointed each time in our two visits. They’re good, but just overpriced for what they offer. We paid over $20 for two breakfast items and two coffees one day. The coffees didn’t taste fully developed and weren’t anything special. And when the cook delivered my puff pastry he said “here’s your sausage puff” I told him I didn’t order the sausage, I ordered the bacon and showed him my ticket. He replied oh that’s what a meant and said it was the bacon. After going back to where we were staying and biting into it, it was indeed a sausage puff, which the filling is completely different than the bacon. Not just a meat switch up. I wanted to order a key lime bite sized pie to go, but they top it with whipped cream and not meringue, and since I don’t like whipped cream I passed.
The next day I returned to try their desserts. I ordered a tiramisu cheesecake. After getting back to my room, I took a bite and realized they had topped it with whipped cream. I didn’t even think to ask since whipped cream isn’t a normal topping for tiramisu. For the price, $7, it felt like a missed opportunity to do a nice mascarpone topping with maybe chocolate swirls or shavings. Instead… just whipped cream on a some chocolate that was poured so thick that it would squish the cheesecake as you tried to push in the fork. About a third of the way in it just fell off the top as a whole so I ate the cheesecake without it.
So, their food isn’t bad, it’s just not...
