We had a very disappointing experience at Desi Hangout today. We ordered Dahi Puri, and it was far too sweet with no balance of other flavors. The roti with paya was another letdown. I’m certain they served frozen chapati it was dry and hard. When I raised this, the staff insisted that it wasn’t frozen but was toasted with ghee. I told him that ghee or butter should actually make the roti softer, not harder, and he had no answer for that. It seemed like they applied ghee just to make it look fresh and soft but it didn’t work. They offered to replace it with a paratha, which I suspect was also frozen, but I didn’t want to argue further.

The paya was overly loaded with masala powder, making it inedible—the worst I’ve ever had. To make matters worse, the area next to the seating is so dusty that the dirt can easily blow into your food. I definitely wouldn’t recommend bringing kids here due to the poor hygiene and the risk of dust getting into their food.

The overall cleanliness was poor dusty benches, unkempt surroundings, It’s surprising that a place like this is allowed to stay in business. I’ve visited many food trucks, but I’ve never encountered anything like this. Save your money and find somewhere else to...

We visited yesterday evening and ordered chicken, lollipop, Samosa chat and chicken burger. All the three were below, average in taste and quality. The chicken lolipop was definitely old and was refried. The burger took so long, disappointed to see frozen chicken patty, soggy tasteless burger . We had to throw away because it was not fresh. All of us are down with stomach pain from last night.

I generally take food videos & put it in instagram. but the moment I tasted the lolipop, I was like NOPE… not going to review this place . I hesitate to give negative feedback to food places, because there are good days and bad days for food establishments. but here it is the health concern …that we are sick after eating this food.

The place is pretty cool but food quality is bad . Now hanging out in the toilet after eating this food .

Response to the management -

This is purely my experience & how can you say it’s not fair . Looking at the chicken can tell whether it’s fresh or not. The worst part is how me and my son both are sick eating your food. You have to first improve your quality and hygiene in the kitchen before you rudely respond to your customers. I’m checking all your negative reviews & your rude...

Desi Hangout is a must-visit for lovers of authentic Indian street food, and their Pani Puri is a highlight. The restaurant's vibrant and welcoming ambiance, with its mix of contemporary and traditional Indian decor, sets the perfect stage for a delightful dining experience.

The Pani Puri is served in a visually appealing manner, with crisp puris arranged around a bowl of tangy, minty pani and a side of tamarind chutney. The puris are perfectly crisp, maintaining their integrity without being too thick. The filling of spiced potatoes and chickpeas is savory and flavorful, providing a perfect base for the refreshing, spicy pani. Each bite is an explosion of flavors, capturing the essence of this beloved street food.

The portion size is generous, making it a satisfying snack or a light meal. The pricing is reasonable, offering excellent value for the quality and authenticity provided. The service is commendable, with friendly and attentive staff ready to customize the spiciness to your preference.

Overall, Desi Hangout’s Pani Puri is a delightful culinary treat that delivers on taste, quality, and authenticity. It’s a must-try for anyone looking to enjoy the true flavors of Indian...

We have had food at Desi Hangout food truck many a times now and wanted to try their live kitchen on our son’s birthday. We got four kinds of dosas, idlis with chutneys and sambhar and two chaats. Their dahi puri was a superhit. The whole setup and service was nicely done and the food was appreciated by everyone in the party. People were actually queuing up for more food and felt like that got transported back to Indian weddings haha. Both Sai’s are very generous and supportive when it comes to catering food. We would definitely recommend everyone to try out these items atleast. From the food truck- try their Irani chai, street style noodles, veg fried rice and chicken drumsticks. You will thank me later 😝

Visited this food truck again on my visit to Austin from Dallas. The taste is consistently good. Loved the schezwan Panner and egg fried rice and the rameswaram dosa is too good to miss. Only thing that is changed is the greenery, otherwise it’s the same. This Indian food truck is legit fire! I had the pungulu, which were crispy AF and so tasty. The dahi puri Total flavor bomb-crunchy, tangy, just awesome. Irani chai was super comforting And the egg bonda was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The vibe here is perfect for hanging out with friends, super chill and fun. If you're looking for some bomb Indian street food, this place is a must-try! P.S it's also BOYB and u can get it across the street.

Wanna have some chilled beer with amazing desi food? Then this is the place for you! Located at 5th Element Brewing, this place offers amazing Indian street-food & snacks in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Definitely try out their street style noodles and mirchi bajji which were my personal favorites here. Been here multiple times, it generally gets busy on weekends and you can expect some wait for your orders. Has ample parking and seating options. Overall a nice hangout spot in Leander to chill out with friends in the evening and have some fresh indian snacks/food and Irani chai. Will go again to try their burgers next time!
