With mixed reviews I wanted to give it a shot. I an a sushi guy eat it about 3 times a week, unfortunately I wish I had skipped Tonight. Right when I walked in the door I was greeted with the lovely smell of unclean fish tanks at least I had hoped that's what it was. I was seated promptly as I was tge only customer. There was a table leaving while I was being seated but that's all. The server was promptly there to take my order, I ordered the Spicy Gyoza and 2 spicy Tuna rolls. I was brought a complimentary cup of miso soup. As far as the miso goes it was good. My spicy gyoza came out next. I was surprised that it was covered in vegetables that's new to me, but it also was delicious. I was so excited about the sushi due to the appetizers, but was let down immediately upon the arrival of my sushi. I have never seen brown spicy Tuna unless it was bad, I gave it a shot anyway and popped a piece in my mouth. Bad Decision, it was definitely not good. The fish had turned....I immediately asked for the check and paid my bill. The bill was $28 and I left $40 and asked my server if there were any other restaurants open in the area. Clue to ask if everything was OK but instead she recommended a place that was open...I won't be back as there are plenty of other places close that are absolutely delicious. Take my advice...read my other reviews.

Wanted tempura but didn't want to mess with it at home. So we thought we'd try this place, close to home. It was a great choice! We ordered a variety of appetizers, and each one was very good to excellent. The dressing on the sumomoto salad is more than just ponzu, it's like a hint of flowers with it, the spicy tuna tacos are a smart idea and fun, the Heart Attack is rich with avo and cream cheese, and the belly was tender and mild teriyaki flavored, just delicious. Large amount of tempura for an app too, and Jay was attentive and polite, thank you, Jay. My only complaint is the paper napkin, smaller and thinner than I needed. The prices, though, are excellent in today's world, and we'll be returning to sit at the sushi bar next time. Go try it, you won't be disappointed.

Great place to eat some good Japanese food. The kids loved the golden California roll, and I really loved the spicy salmon roll. The red snapper that my wife had was delicious. And my katsu ramen was fantastic. Staff seemed a little bit busy so there were some minor details missed, other than that we had a great time. Great place to bring the family, or meetup with friends. Insider tip: don't sit in the booths facing the door at sunrise. Every time someone would open the door I would get a sun burst blast in the face. Literally a blinding experience!

TLDR; Decent food but completely overshadowed by its horrible service.

Let me preface this by saying that I eat out between 5 and 15 times a week, and have done so for the past 20 years. I typically tip 20%, and only rarely go as low as 10% for especially bad service. Over the years I've encountered thousands of people who were waiters, and most were good, some were great, and a rare few were bad.

And then there is the wait staff at Umiya.

Upon entering the restaurant I see only 3 other occupied tables, so it's a pretty slow night. After waiting about 5 minutes, I'm given a booth. 10 minutes later a waiter comes to get my order, and shortly thereafter he delivers a bowl of miso soup. He also delivers my drink ... a can of Coke and a half-melted glass of ice. No big deal, I'll just drink the water and all is well. Of course the waiter was also holding the bare straw (the drinking end) with his bare hand, so I can't use that, but I'm not a stickler, so I just take it out of the glass.

I wait for my food. And wait. And wait. And wait some more. At no point in time did anyone check on me, my food, or even make eye contact. Keep in mind, there are still only 3 other occupied tables.

After 50 minutes of waiting (10 of which I've spent trying to flag down a waiter) I finally catch the eye of the other waiter on duty and ask about my food. After checking in back he tells me that they're cooking it now. I've been at the restaurant over an hour at this point and still no food (the miso soup was gone 45 minutes before), but it's finally coming.

The food finally arrives and it's steaming hot. Unfortunately the staff hasn't left me with chopsticks, a fork, or any other utensil. After a few minutes they locate a fork for me. I have to ask for napkins.

I eat relatively quickly (I was hoping for a fast meal, not an entire evening at the restaurant) and ask for my check. The server takes my card, goes to the front to run it (I assume) at which point he leaves it completely unattended on the front counter and tends to another table. And then another table. And then goes to the back for a while. And then tends to another table. And then seats some people. And then runs another table's card. And then goes to the back for a while. People are coming and going, and my credit card sits completely unattended at the front for a 15 solid minutes.

Finally I ask again if I can have my card and bill. He says sure and goes to get it. And is immediately distracted again by seating another table literally 3 feet from me, and he leaves my card and bill on that table instead of giving it to me.

At this point the server has had my card for 15 minutes, has left it on a completely different table, and now another server has picked it up and is taking it to run it again. At this point I ask for my card again and the waiter says "Yeah yeah yeah" while wagging his finger impatiently at me.

I finally get my bill (no pen to sign it, of course). After debating with myself, I left a $0 tip. I've never done that before, but there was absolutely no aspect of the service that was worthy of any tip whatsoever.

It sounds like others have had better experiences at the restaurant, so maybe my experience is an exception. I hope so. The sushi looked good. Sadly I won't be going back to find...

We had been long time regulars here. Were sad when we saw them closed. Then after a few weeks found open again. We had company and decided to order delivery for the first time. We ordered 8 rolls and bulgogi. In special request we asked for extra ginger and soy. In delivery directions we asked for no contact. When the order arrived the delivery person kept ringing the doorbell. Finally they had to be told "no contact was requested." We opened the order to find 7 rolls and a small tad of ginger like you usually see. Called the restaurant and a wonderful employee was perfectly professional and kind. After discussion offered to credit us for that missing roll. Very, very nice with perfect customer service. Then just a few minutes later he called back to add that the chef swears they put all rolls in. I again discribed what we had as I looked at the order. He was still respectful and kind and again offered the refund for the single roll. All was well. I felt like a cherished customer and was looking forward to our next visit in the restaurant. THEN about an hour later. . . DUN DUN DUN I got another call from the restaurant. This time it was the chef promising me they did not make a mistake in a fast agrivated tone. She was not going to have it. The tone got angry and agressive. When I got a moment to explain that I counted she kept interrupting and would not calm down. I finally asked if this means I would not be refunded for the single missing roll, she started all over again. I told her we would never be back and I had better not get another call and I was hanging up. The next day or two later, I checked my bank account and not only did they not give us credit for the missing roll, they charged an extra $11.00. I still have the receipt. I will be calling to dispute the charges. I'm so sad and disappointed but also very shocked and angry about the phone attack. This is not how you...
