First time ever going into an Irish pub -- and it's making me wonder why I hadn't come into one of these sooner.
This place can appear rather dark on the inside once you first come in on sunnier days, but one should be able to acclimate fairly decently.
Definitely do yourself a favor and spring for one or two appetizers if you come with a group of people -- we were big fans of the rather large onion rings, and the cheese curds were quite good as well. Excellent sauces came with both; in particular, the chipotle aioli that came with the rings had a nice smoky zing to it. I was almost tempted to take some of that home with me.
And they've got a quite eclectic menu here -- the chicken curry in particular got my attention. At first, one would think that the raisins would detract from the dish. But I honestly couldn't taste them very much within everything else that was present. If anything, the bell peppers in the meal stuck out a lot more; thankfully, it was really easy to fix those by eating one of those together with one of the fries.
Everyone else enjoyed their meal as well, even though my dad wasn't initially too sure about the mushy peas. The thing is, while the pea flavors are still present, there's also a fair amount of seasoning added to them that helps mask a good number of their innate bitter and off-putting flavor notes.
The service we received was excellent -- our waitress was quite attentive and courteous. She kept tabs on us to make sure we had what we needed, and she was quite pleasant to talk to as well. It's quite rare to see this kind of customer service any more!
One final thing to note: the portions that we ended up with? They're more filling than they look! If you plan on coming here, either come hungry or plan on taking a doggy bag home. It's possible that you may end up needing one anyways, because they make some big stuff here.
The visit here for a late birthday meal was great; we do plan on...
Read moreI've sat on this for almost a week to be sure that I post it based on thoughtful words rather than emotions. Last Friday my wife and I, and our son and his girlfriend stopped in for dinner. I'll start by saying that our server, Ashley, was great. She was great throughout the evening, despite it being a terrible experience for us. We ordered wings as an appetizer. That's where the bad began. The wings were tiny little pieces. I've never seen anything so small. When we asked, Ryan (still unclear whether he is a manager or owner as he later claimed) apologetically said that unfortunately that's all they've been getting in lately. Well, wouldn't you know, our next order of wings was normal size. I really wish I had taken a picture because it was so unbelievable. The rest of our appetizers were fine. Dinner came, and my wife's wasn't done right. So they took part back to redo. Came back wrong again. No point in waiting for a third time. Ryan blamed the 2 mistakes on the fact that the kitchen was busy. Not a good excuse, dude. Kind of ruined the dinner mood for her. Things with Ryan got worse at this point. When my wife explained why she decided to not take the rest of her dinner to go because her expectations weren't met, Ryan claimed the description on the menu mentioned the untraditional approach. Ryan, all it takes to prove that wrong is to go grab a menu and read it! We asked to speak with the owner and Ryan refused. Said he was an owner. Whether or not he actually is, we could see the actual owner across the room. Just not good business. I could share more, but hope you get the point. It wasn't our first time there but was...
Read moreThe last several times I’ve been to Conroy‘s it has not been up to standards. They were cigarette butts from the night before filling up the ashtrays that now had water in them. The next time two days ago i food spilled all over the patio. The fish was gooey the crust sort of burned and soft. The french fries are rarely crispy . Scotch eggs sausage wasn’t cooked on the inside, so I took it home to cook it right and then I had to throw it out because I forgot to put it in the refrigerator. There’s something wrong with the scones. They don’t taste the same anymore and they’re kind of brown instead of fluffier off-white. However, the butter cream and blueberry sauce is excellent still. My Irish breakfast I had a few weeks before was fantastic. I wish it came with better bread selections such as brown bread and and soda bread which aren’t even on the menu. They served only one piece of toast which was good but not adequate. I know they’re short staffed However it is unpleasant that the trash is never emptied on the patio when I get there! There’s carry out containers with food in them in the trash. I see the Peanut across the street is jam packed with cars and people. I’ve been tempted to go there. I don’t want to lose Conroy‘s. I want it...
