The thing about good bbq for me starts and almost ends with the meat, and Big D's does not disappoint on that count! The pulled pork is awesome, bits of the char bark and all. The burger was really great, clearly Big D knows his protein. The finish, is almost there with the sides. The slaw is yummy and all the sides very much have that homemade taste. The dirty mac with a delicious green chile had great flavor. My only criticism is the one thing most bbq struggle with, mac & cheese. It tastes home spun, but lacked some savouryness. It needed some sharp cheddar zing to go with the sweet tanginess of the green chile cheese melt. Last but not least, no bbq is truly good without sauce, and on this they did great. Big D's Smokin Q can found tucked away in a corner of the santiam liquor store parking lot. Their location may not be expected to find fantastic food which I feel is the reason their food flys under the radar. They have a sunday brunch where select breakfast options are made available to choose from. I had feed back from three companions and myself. This is some of the best food in albany. Keep in mind this isn't a place to go if you are looking to lose weight.
