The short version:
This place is generally good, but unreliable. I would eat from here on a lazy night when I can't be bothered to cook. I wouldn't rely on this for a gathering with friends or to cater anything.
The long version:
I've eaten here 4 times now and my experience has been mixed 50/50. The first time I got the Phnom Penh sandwich with pork it was delicious. The meat was tender and the whole thing was flavourful. The second time I got the same sandwich and the meat was burnt and the whole sandwich was dripping with oil and lacking any of the flavours I had enjoyed the first time. I had exactly the same experience the next two time when I got chicken pad thai. The first time everything was delicious, but the second time was much more oily and much less flavourful. I suppose you flip a coin on who is working the grill that evening.
My worst experience here has been with the sticky rice dessert which I have bought twice. The first time it was great, but the second time it tasted like it had been left under a hot light for an hour. It was completely set into a brick sat in a puddle of separated milk and syrup mess. The edges of the brick were crispy and dry while the middle all the grains of rice had disintegrated and merged into one. The issues with the main courses are more excusable because they might be explained by one cook not being as good as another. This issue with the dessert is inexcusable because it shows that the people working here are happy to microwave yesterdays leftovers and send them out to a customer in a really...
Read moreI eat at this small, family-owned business about once a week. They are takeout only - they do not have tables or space for dining in, so plan accordingly! I personally like to get my sandwich and walk to the Lebanon Green and sit and eat at one of the picnic tables if the weather is nice.
They make a variety of entrees, including their signature Phnom Penh Sandwich (which is essentially a banh mi sandwich), pad thai, a jasmine rice dish, a fried rice dish, pho, a spicy curry soup, and a whole array of appetizer options. I get the sandwich about once a week, but I've also had the pad thai and the pho. I would get the pad thai again, but probably not the pho.
Whichever entree you order, you get the option of which protein to put in it. I always get it with the lemongrass beef, but my colleague is a fan of the ginger pork - they also have teriyaki chicken or curry chicken, coconut shrimp, or grilled tofu as protein options.
Edit: this place somehow continues to just get better. I had their spicy curry soup and it was delicious. The sandwiches are still my go-to, but on a cool, rainy day that...
Read moreWe are new to the area and decided to stop in for some lunch, we are glad we did. This is a small restaurant with very limited seating and limited parking in the area, but the food is very good!
We ordered the Sarin Special, Pho, Spicy Curry w Jasmin rice (GF), Kuy Teav Cha, and the Ginger Garlic Pork Sticks. Everything was very good! This is authentic Cambodian cooking! My son loved his Pha, my curry was delicious (spicy, but just enough to wake up your mouth while eating, not so much to cause you to pause or sweat), and my husband kept raving about the egg on his dish, saying he would have liked 2 or 3 of them.
We enjoyed a very good meal!
My only comment is that there was only one man taking orders and serving, so be patient; he really could have used someone to help out.
I definitely recommend this little spot, I know we...
