Saturday night dining at Sammy B's. Not as pleasant as I would have liked. The atmosphere is noisy but nice decor. We got the unfortunate seating by a door that people were using to go in and out to the bar. It was cold outside and people were smoking on top of that. So the cold air and smell of smoke kept rushing in. The area carried voices well, so you almost have to yell to talk at your own table. They were busy, not surprising. So we expected a delay and slow cooking times. So average on the service. The food wasn't hot. I ordered the chicken on a row. Chicken was very tasty but a little tough. Not as tender as I would have liked. The stuffed shells were very good. The salad came in a bowl that was too small to do anything with. It came in a basket lined with paper and a biscuit. I ended up dumping it out of the bowl into the basket. The greens were plenty and fresh, but would have preferred more tomatoes and cucumbers. I would suggest a Julian style cut for the cucumbers if they insist of using that tiny bowl. and, add a few other things to bring it to life. boiled eggs, mushrooms, cheese. Something that keeps it from being bland. My wife had the fish and chips. Lots of shoestring fries, The fish was lacking a bit and got lost in the breading. Fish is suppose to be thick and flaky with a little bit of batter. That way the fish is the main feature. But in this case the fries won that out. My mom got the fried fish sandwich. Now she is a tiny person, they gave her two thick slices of french bread for the bun that again was thicker than the fish. The fish itself was prepared perfectly. Thick meat with a thin breading over it. If they would have sliced just the top bread in the sandwich, that would have been enough. Otherwise the sandwich was way to big and too much bread. She had sweet potato fries on the side which she said were awesome. I saw plenty of items on the is menu that I would like to try. Overall, I am not thrilled with the service, but as I said busy night. Noise level and the constant people going in and out by our table. Smoking out the door. Made for an unpleasant evening. This place is a little pricey, but they have a great menu to back that up. I recommend you try this place at the very least 3 times. Find one during the busy time, one in the slow, and one in the average range. Order separate foods each time to get the variety of the types of foods and sit in three different areas. You will find that if the atmosphere is pleasing you can concentrate more on the enjoyment of your food. I have only been here once. So, i marked it based on that experience. I am very sure you will get better experiences on other than Saturday nights when Christmas parties are going on. As I said, its a bit pricey but...
Read moreI’ve Eaten at Sammy B’s before and the food was great. However, this time I would like to comment about the aesthetics, staging and the accessibility of the restaurant.
My spouse is an amputee, an above the knee amputee so it makes it very difficult for him to walk. With Sammy B’s there’s only one handicap parking spot in the front, and the rest are in the back. The worst thing about the ones in the back is that you have to walk a slight incline for the entire length of the restaurant to get to the front door. This is a struggle bus ticket for the mobility challenged and I’m surprised no one has told you, we don’t want that ticket-we just want a smoother ride to the front door. Sammy B’s, I highly suggest that you take those parking spaces that are adjacent to the patio that we jealously walked past and make those into handicapped parking spaces. This will show that you take those with mobility issues into account and not turn parking into a sweepstakes that very few will win.
This time we went on Valentine’s Day and we did not have a reservation. Of course, that is our fault. On the other side of the coin though, do not punish patrons who do not have a reservation by placing them next to the Patio door that keeps opening and closing with people entering and exiting when it’s 20° outside. we were only served a water and we had to wait for five minutes for our waitress to return. Needless to say she returned to an empty table because we were so cold and that we up and left. We tried to wait for her to return to be polite but we came to have a warm meal, not turn into popsicles. Sammy B’s, I’m making another suggestion: close that damned patio door when it’s so cold outside because no one wants to sit inside of a restaurant, wear their coat because they’re freezing, and leave because the experience was unpleasant just waiting to take your order. Bad form, bad planning, on both our parts.
We love your food. We love your ambience. We do not love your staging in the winter. Again, this one rating is because of your lack of planning for the handicapped and for seating people at an open door in the throes of winter. We will not be back until the...
Read moreI wasn't sure how my parents, my daddy's service pup, two teenagers & I were going to spend our Easter. I am battling cancer, and unfortunately I was very sick for three days before Easter, forgetting it was Easter weekend. I woke up Sunday morning, praying I could find a location that could fit us in that had seating for us and would allow my daddy's Service doxie. I called two places. No answer at either.......that was until one of the two redialed my number back, saying they missed my call. His name was Dustin! The kindest, most gentle hearted sole I have ever spoken to on the phone. Without trying to go into much detail, I tried to explain my situation. Dustin stopped me and said, "Ma am, we will make room for your family. How many? What time would be best for you? You take your time. We will make Easter Sunday memorable for y'all." I hung up in tears. We made the almost hour drive to Sammy B's. My daddy is 84, my momma 80, two teenagers, Willow & I. We didn't even sit in the waiting area, there was a table ready right by the beautiful salad bar!!! We had an amazing waitress, she was so kind, smiling, always checking on us and so accommodating. I personally was so happy, they serve the best Southern Sweet Tea! 😊 Their menu is incredible!! My family all enjoyed what we ordered, to include the amazing desert choices. The atmosphere all around us, the history about the building is simply breathtaking, Dustin is the MOST AMAZING ANGEL ON EARTH, the Manager, whom I believe is the owner is the most beautiful lady, kindest, sweetest, and most gentle spirit there is!! I know for my family, we will never forget Easter 2025 at Sammy B's. They made our hearts whole, gave me reasons to smile, and helped me to remember what Easter is all about! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your kindness, your amazing food, your hospitality, the cleanliness of your restaurant, the entire staff for being so wonderful and for reminding me that during this nightmare I'm facing, there are always reasons to face our tomorrows. The...
