Yum! I had the tropical roll, the sweet potato roll and a salmon roll with mango. While it took a wee bit longer than I expected, it was very fast considering there were other orders before me. (I forgot they were doing other orders which is why it was longer than expected. I mention this because when you walk in, it's quiet and most orders appear to be to go orders. So, just be patient. They are very fast considering.)
The rolls were delicious! I loved each bite and I am so glad I came, sat down and ate here. This little mom-and-pop place is perfect. My rolls were simple, but the rolls coming out for others, the more extravagant rolls, they were gorgeous and HUGE. Beautiful in fact.
I also ordered miso soup and pajun. Delicious, perfect amount and I left comfortably full.
How things work. You come in, order and pay, and then you sit to eat or grab it to go. The staff are friendly and efficient. Oh and don't forget your drinks in the fridge. They have same drinks I would get out of the vending machines in Japan. It was nice to remember.
Overall, I am very happy I found this little place. Next time I make the 3.5h round trip drive out, I am definitely stopping in again! Thank you so much for your hospitality and...
Read moreWent back today for the first time in ages and I'm glad I did. Yes, a lot has changed since they reopened, but you can tell this familiy is doing their very best to keep serving the upper valley.
As of 1.13.24 there are only cold drinks in the cooler (I should have asked if there was a byob situation). You place your order at the cash register, everything is brought to your table, and then you pay before you leave. Not full table service, but nothing wrong with that. (the website is still a little unclear with some instructions stating take-out only - that is not the case!)
I had a chef's choice sushi/sashimi plate and dukboki. The sushi didn't seem as fresh or flavorful as I recall, but still good enough. The dukboki though...I will be dreaming of that. So good - perfect chewyness, actually spicy, but not so overpowering that you can't taste the flavors of the sauce. Will definitely be ordering that again.
The real reason to eat here is to support a family owned restaurant that offers good food you really can't get anywhere else in the region. They really do treat everyone who walks in like family, they are so so lovely and they are doing everything they can to continue...
Read moreI just popped in for lunch this afternoon, and I ordered the Yaki Soba noodles, as well as some sesame broccoli and some spicy bean sprouts! Believe me, there were lots of other dishes that looked great from both the Korean and Japanese cusines provided, I just thought some noodles would be easiest to take on the go.
It's only my first time, but clearly, the place is a labor of love kept up by the family who works it. It's a shame that there's not enough help around or available to have the place be dine in as it apparently once was, but such are these times. Even so, the food was tasty, and the family staffing both the counter and kitchen were very welcoming and kind.
Anyone who reads this; please give Yama a chance if you have the time and haven't before! I'm partly typing this up as a form of support because not enough good restaurants get any.
Their food was great to eat on a picnic table, and I took a menu with me, knowing I'll be back at...
