Stopped in for lunch one recent workday on the recommendation of someone who had previously been to the restaurant. Parking was a challenge. It's on the street and that could mean several blocks over.
The interior is fairly small, so keep that in mind. The menu is straightforward and quite simple. No burgers, no fries, no hot dogs, or those sorts of things. Sandwiches, salads, wraps... you get the idea.
I ordered a pretty basic ham and cheese on rye, hold the tomato and the mayo, but a side of mustard. It came with a pickle that I didn't try, and very fresh rippled potato chips. The sandwich was good. Fresh, soft bread, no curling meat or cheese... the sandwich had clearly just been made. I also had a bowl of the Italian wedding soup. It was canned soup, so go on that info.
My colleague ordered a Waldorf salad with chicken. She said it was very good, including the tiny bit of pumpkin bread that came with it. Overall, I thought the salad was a little small for a meal portion. She did finish the entire thing. She also bought one of the little pumpkin breads to take home.
The unsweetened iced tea was nice, not bitter. My colleague had plain water as they had no sparkling.
We did not have dessert. We sat for a bit waiting for the check until a helpful server (not the semi-grumpy one (no cheerfulness, no smile, no back and forth, just short answers... acted like we were bothering her-maybe she was having a very bad, no good day)told us we had to go to the counter to pay. The other servers (two others checked on us) were very warm and friendly. No worries!
We paid and used cash for the tip jar.
We'd stop by again if we were hungry for a light lunch. Not the best place ever by a long shot, but certainly adequate for our...
Read moreIt's a cute place! You sit in the middle of all kinds of antique and vintage furniture and glassware and dishes and crafts and eat lunch. For all the dishes that they have there, they serve their food on paper plates and in styrofoam cups. I think it could be so much more charming if they used some of that antique china to serve their food. Sort of like Lavender and Lace in the Winter Haven area. If they don't want to use their own plates, they should go to Goodwill where you can get a whole entire set of dishes in beautiful patterns etc for less than $30, and half price on certain days. Buy a few sets of those and upgrade your ambience! The food is okay. I wouldn't say great. They open up cans of fruit and dump it on to pretty lettuce leaves and make it look cute, but you're still just eating canned Mandarin oranges, pineapple, a few grapes, and half a strawberry. The quiche is good, I would recommend that. One person in our group had a sandwich that looked tasty. My problem is that for all that good food, the presentation in paper plates and styrofoam cups is just not cutting it for me. I would not go there for a fun ladies' lunch because of the disposable plates and bowls. The service is just okay. However. If you're really going to go with the theme, have your servers wear cute aprons. They all just dress super casual in jeans and shorts; and it takes away from the charm. All in all, they are just so close to being adorable... but ultimately,...
Read moreThis is another place we love. The owner and all of the staff are awesome. Friendly and engaging. They welcome you into the place like it is their home and they are having you in for lunch.
They always have an exceptional variety of freshly made soups (none of that canned stuff here!). My favorites are the chicken white bean chili, vegetable soup, and the wedding soup. But none of them are less than fantastic.
If you are looking for something light, the trio salad is awesome. It is a heavy portion of chicken salad, tuna salad, and egg salad on fresh greens. Love this dish as well.
Nothing is bad here! I wish they were open for breakfast with some delicious breakfast things and cappucino! "hint hint" lol. But a great place...
