The minute I walked in I anticipated a good experience as the spaciousness was inviting, and decor appeared authentic as the sounds of Mexican music ushered me in. It was a late afternoon on the eve of New Year’s Eve that I decided to try this place. I was dining alone and super hungry, so I decided to sit at a table rather than the bar.
I was seated quickly and within minutes had a bowl of chips and salsa in front of me (loved this)! The next few minutes, this welcoming atmosphere went all downhill. I believe it had much to do with the mannerisms of my Waiter.
Since it was my first time dining, and the menu was extensive, I took my time ordering. It appeared the Waiter was impatient as he kept coming to take my order but I wasn’t ready. Between the snacking on the chips and getting hydrated, I felt relaxed and wanted to take my time to make a decision. I easily brushed off his impatience as my sensitivity.
It took us several attempts to place the order. I wanted the fish taco with a hard shell and for some reason, he kept saying soft. When I understood this to mean that I couldn’t get a fish taco with a hard shell I took it off my order, it was then that he got it right; fish taco with hard shell. I also ordered a steak. Not sure of the name of it exactly but thought I’d try it since I’ve enjoyed the seasoning of the steak at past Mexican restaurants.
The Waiter was gracious enough to ask if I wanted “medium rare” or “medium well”. I was appreciative of this clarification. After I placed my order, I clearly stated that I wanted the tacos as an appetizer and steak as an entree. In other words, I did not want them to come out at the same time.
Needless to say, as you can see by the photo, they arrived 3 minutes apart. As dismayed as I was about this, I did not request it to go back. I heard horror stories in doing this so there it sat, getting cold, while I ate the fish tacos.
I looked forward to the fish tacos because they are my favorite kind of taco and not everyone sells them. It was ok, nothing to brag about as the fish taste seemed muted. When I finally moved on to the steak, it was not hot enough so I ended up taking it home. It didn’t have the flavor I was looking for, however the medium rare was cooked to perfection.
I wanted to order a drink but the Waiter seemed hurried and preoccupied. When I asked for more napkins, he passed my table several times thereafter and finally brought me the napkins, almost as an after thought.
While I was eating, it appeared he was circling my table with anxiousness. After a time he came and asked "you done?" I thought the question was rather gruff and could have been asked better such as "can I get you something else?". At this point I stopped making excuses for his behavior and resigned to leave, especially with the cold steak. He brought the check and immediately was ready to check me out without bothering to ask if I wanted dessert. I wanted dessert but was tired of his hurrying manner. I paid the check, and despite my misgivings left an adequate tip slightly above 20%.
As a last attestation to what I will call his rudeness, he collected the signed check and disappeared before I so much as gathered my purse and doggie bag.
I am giving three stars because of the bland taste of the food (although plated nicely) and the Waiter’s lack of hospitality.
There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants to patronage. I will not visit or recommend this one...
Read moreI’ve been to sanfelipes in multiple locations and times.. went a few times for my birthday. I’ve only been to this location twice now and will not be returning. The moment we walked in the staff wasn’t very friendly from the hostess running away and screaming at us to basically just come on.. and then throwing the menus down on the table and saying there and walking away before we could even get to the table.. then after ordering we never got our queso like we had ordered and had to remind the waiter that brought our food to us. The item I had ordered was incorrect it was suppose to be the sanfelipe super which is two Chicken, one beef, one cheese, and one refried bean. It was two beef ones instead of chicken. All of it was very thrown together and tasted very old and stale. When I notified the waiter which I try to not do about stuff often because I understand things happen.. but I told him that I wasn’t pleased with the whole thing and then he asked me if I wanted a box to take it home and I replied with if you’re going to make me pay full price for it then yes.. and he then tried to argue with me and dismissing me and then took my plate and threw away the food. Then went to check out and my full meal was on there.. I notified the checkout waiter .. to where then rolled his eyes and gave me an attitude. He finall took it off after I explained the situation and even apologized to him for Having to make Him do So. Just upsetting because we don’t go out very often due to strict money and it was an all around...
Read moreThis place is absolute trash. We went on line to look at the menu. Called and placed an order over the phone to pick up when I picked up the order the cashier said it was $80 when we got home 30 minutes away. The cheese dip was missing. The food was cold and taste horrible all of it my son was reluctant to call them because he doesn’t like to complain but I couldn’t get over what we paid $80 for, plus I left them a four dollar tip when I called to ask exactly what was $80 and a person started telling me the prices. They did not reflect the menu that I saw on the website. When I asked about this, she said that they have no control over the prices on the menu online And there was nothing that could be done about it. The prices are $4-5 more. The problem I had when I spoke to the manager Oscar was his lack of empathy. Even thrived to justify it. He literally said to me’ you know what’s been going on’ I stopped him dead on his tracks and retorted no sir! I know nothing. Im visiting from out of town and went online and ordered food only to find out that your prices are much higher. You didn’t call me to inform me that you didn’t give me the cheese that we ordered. I demand a refund for that and the tip that I left for overcharging me he is requiring to come into the restaurant to get a $10 refund. Its not about the $10. It’s about the nerve to knowingly rip people of and try to pass...
