I have been going to this bar/grill for the past 20+ years, and it was always great. I practically grew up there, loved the atmosphere, bartenders, waitresses, ect. Recently, they got a new manager and cleaned house, and the place is now awful. I have given it a few tries, but tonight may have been the last straw. They are trying to go for a different feel I guess, draw in a younger, hipper crowd, but this is Lenexa for crying out loud. The new waitresses are all attractive, but have no idea what they are doing, and the live music during the week, and early in the night, is loud and annoying. It was a place where families and friends used to come and eat dinner, have a few beers, but now you can't hear each other over the mediocre, nondescript band playing.
Tonight it was admittedly busy, not crazy, but busy, and our experience was terrible. Our food took over 40 minutes, and our waitress only came by once about 25 minutes after we had ordered to say it would be "only" 15 more minutes. Ok, I get it if the kitchen is backed up, but communicate that to us, and just because the steaks aren't done yet, don't forget about checking on our drinks! She never said sorry for the food taking so long or screwing up the order (which she did), and Clayton, the sorry excuse for a manager, certainly never came by to say anything. I've worked in food service and am very understanding of how things can be, but this was unacceptable.
Long story short, "new"...
Read moreI will never go here again or to another Tanners. We had a similar incident at the one off 119th. The service is horrendous to say the least. It took over 20 minutes just to get a drink order. Another 20 for our waitress to come over and take out food order. We went outside to smoke. Came back in and the pitcher of beer and waters had been removed from the table. They did bring us a new pitcher and new bears after we came back. I guess we could have left after getting free drinks? The food did come quick and was delicious! However, instead of attending to us or any of her other tables, our waitress was more concerned with doing shots with whom I assume was her boyfriend. After parading around he bar for another 15 minutes, we finally get our check. We ask for an itemized receipt for tax purposes. She completely blows it off. Thirty minutes later we ask another lady who hadn’t been doing shots. She blows it off. So after thirty minutes we have to go to the manager and get aggressive with asking and she couldn’t have made it seem more inconvenient. Honestly the service was hilariously horrible and that was the only thing we enjoyed laughing about all night. We arrived before 7. Left after 9, and the only thing that stuck was he...
Read moreWe stopped in this location on our way to an event as we were early and Tanner's has always been a great place to grab a drink and a quick bite. The food we had was great, server was very sweet but we had to ask for silverware and were never actually given a plate, but the bartender was what got us. First, she had no idea about the type of spirit we ordered. (It was tequila and our server had to explain it to her.) Second, she was chewing gum so obnoxiously the entire time she was pouring, serving drinks and food, speaking to people, and handling money. Never observed her washing her hands between handling money and making drinks or serving food. (Actually, never saw her wash her hands at all while we were there and I had a clear line of vision of every action she took in the hour we were there.) If I could give a 3.5, I would, but it only allows a three or a four, so the four is what I chose because the food was great and our server was quick to get our drinks and food to us. Somebody needs to explain to that bartender about that gum, though! The spittle I saw pop from her mouth a couple of times was disturbing, and the reason we didn't ask for a...
