I ordered three breakfast tacos from Chachos at around 4:00 AM. I first wanted to order barbacoa tacos, but inexplicably, a Mexican restaurant in South Texas, San Antonio specifically, told me that they did not have barbacoa. So I settled for a bacon and egg, a chorizo and egg, and a papa and egg. Chachos was my second choice because Tia's Taco Hut was not open yet. I also ordered green salsa. When I got home, to my surprise I found that the tortillas were not the soft flour tortillas that I would get at Tia's. Rather, these were almost identical to the rough, textured, cheaper feeling tortillas you get at the taco stand inside of Valero. I also was shocked to notice that instead of the traditional Verde spicy salsa that you get at thousands of other Mexican restaurants, instead what I received appeared to be something similar to ranch dressing with green food coloring. It tasted okay but I wanted green salsa with jalapeno seeds. I ate the scrambled eggs and bacon by themselves, and they were fine. I took a bite of the chorizo and egg, and it had this very soft texture that just found odd. I told my mom she could have the tacos as I didn't want them, she tried eating one and immediately vomited. According to her either the sausage or egg inside were not cooked to completion. I'm absolutely shocked at how low quality this food was, and I just should have waited for Tia's taco hut to open.
At Tia's I could get my normal breakfast tacos with the soft, warm flour tortillas, well cooked ingredients, and a traditional spicy jalapeno green salsa. I will NEVER eat at this restaurant again. I do not care that it was 4:00 in the morning, there are literally hundreds of Mexican restaurants with hardworking employees in San Antonio that will serve quality food, including barbacoa, that early. Because they are breakfast tacos and people who work hard at their jobs need to get up and eat in the morning. FOR SHAME, CHACHOS!
I USED TO REALLY LIKE THEIR KING KONG NACHOS BUT I'M NEVER...
Read moreWe went to Chacho‘s on a Saturday night at around 10 o’clock when we walked in there were a bunch of waiters all bunched up at the front door. No one acknowledged us or even said hello. I had to ask this rather large man with long hair and a beard if I was supposed to be following him, he just looked over his shoulder and yelled, yeah. There are booths set up everywhere. It is not at all set up like the old Chacho’s. Our waitress came and asked us for our drink order then another waitress came and asked us for our drink order. The older lady that stands up by the cash register was bellowing out orders to all of the waitresses. We finally ordered our food and then proceeded to wait 37 minutes for one enchilada and one egg and bacon taco and we drank water. The atmosphere is very chaotic very unorganized and freezing. They have this big air conditioning unit on the ceiling that blows cold air so unbearable that I thought about leaving a couple times. When we finally got our food, my husband‘s taco was cold, and my enchilada had been sitting so long that all of the cheese was dried and cold when we went up to pay the lady that stays by the cash register Never asked if everything was OK never really said anything. I told her what we had to eat and my husband told her that our table was number 11 she never smiled. She never said anything just do you need any change? if you were excited that Chacho‘s dining room was going to reopen like we were, you’re going to be sadly disappointed. It is nothing like the old chachos. They are trying to run this place like it’s El chaparral and the food and service is like McDonald’s. You are served Styrofoam cups, those cheap paper, napkins, and little child size plastic forks. It’s sad to say, but we will never be back. The only good thing about the whole experience was our waitress was very sweet. I honestly don’t know why she’s...
Read moreWaited a long while to get seated. Took the waitress forever to come back to take our drink/food order. Asked for more chips and if she could bring a hotter salsa, brought the same salsa. ( They used to have a salsa bar where you could get your own. Used to order your food then seat yourself and they'd call your name to go get it. Guess they're trying to become more upscale?)
We got our food. Many items were cold others were semi warm. It was freezing in the dining room, but you would still expect your first few bites to be hot. Especially after waiting so long for it.
One of my sons ordered chicken enchiladas. He got plain cheese enchiladas. I ordered the beef fajita plate with boracho beans, got refried. They were semi warm. My other son ordered the Mexican plate with an enchilada, beef taco and a chalupa. He said it had no flavor and was mostly cold.
Then my son that ordered the enchiladas found a fingernail in his rice that he has decided to take a bite of. That was when I decided to go ask for a mgr.
One of the staff pointed to an older man standing behind the bar and said he was the owner/mgr. I walked over, with the fingernail in a napkin to try and speak to him about the situation. He totally ignored me. Walked away. Then my waitress went to him and told him I wanted to speak to him. He walked further away going back into the kitchen. That's horrible service. Especially when he's the owner!
I'm my opinion, if you're going to own a restaurant, then OWN up to the horrible service, food and everything that goes along with the food service industry.
I will never go back to chachos again. And we weren't the only customers that had complaints at this time. We saw at least 2 other parties get...
