I love this park, it’s usually clean, and there is a restroom to use, the walkways aren’t crowded, but there is always other people here usually people with their kiddos, or folks who are walking the trails or exercising. Everyone seems to be friendly and smiling or doing the nod thing strangers do to say hello to other strangers. I like to walk around listening to my headphones and gaze at the squirrels, if I know I’m coming here beforehand I usually will bring my squirrel buddies some snacks like black sunflower seeds as well as peanuts in the shell, or pecans in the shell, or walnuts in the shell, Sometimes on leaner times I bring dried corn, (the kind they sell for deers) the squirrels are pretty used to humans here and they aren’t shy about taking food. Many of them will come right up to me, nearly asking for their snacks. I bring some H20 in the summer for them and occasionally put it in a old small yogurt container, I wish I could put it in those containers used in hamsters cages to keep the water clean but for whatever reason those containers don’t stay zip tied to the trees, so perhaps it’s against the rules here. But I know how often it rains here and there fore know that these little guys must be getting thirsty, if I know I’m hot and thirsty they must be as well. Who ever is against giving these little angels some water perhaps should go a few days out in the heat with out any water, Let us know how that’s working out for ya? Yeah I thought so…. Oh yeah they also got a cool little area that you can plant veggies, I think that the plots are separate gardens people somehow acquire but I don’t know how or through whom, but it would be something to possibly learn more about in the future, as it looks to me like whoever is harvesting it does pretty well. I wish I did know more details on that cause it looks pretty cool, and it’s extremely well taken care of, no weeds, it’s watered regularly, it’s of excellent health, so who ever is in charge of the upkeep for sure knows what they are doing, no doubt. That’s cool to see that, no many people have veggie gardens here in San Antonio, compared to in central NJ where I grew up and never had to buy tomatoes or cucumbers or blueberries or cherries, or corn from the grocery store, it’s was all outside. I don’t know if it’s a geographical thing or just because that was going on 4 decades ago, or why it’s not as popular here in San Antonio, or maybe it’s a climate / less precipitation issue here I have no idea, but I was happy to see some people taking advantage of having some soil and spare time and some motivation to grow their own goodies finally here! I always look to see if they have that at any other city parks around here and I have not seen it except for Raymond Rinkus park, (this one) and a few places in and around Austin and near Round Rock, but if I’m ever given the opportunity to garden in a shared space I would for sure...
Read moreIf I could give this place zero stars I would ! Terrible terrible customer service & miscommunication. My baby’s 1st birthday party was completely ruined due to the fact the receptionist for the park gave me the wrong booking information. As I was trying to book online back in February I saw there was a small & a large pavilion . I wanted to understand the difference so I gave the park a call & was told there’s only ONE pavilion NOT TWO ! So of course day of the party we show up & got the cops called on us cause we were at the wrong pavilion which was definitely a surprise since I DID IN FACT call to make sure I was booking the right place . When I called a few days after that mishap to see if there’s any kind of solution we can come up with since it was a very terrible experience & I just wanted some kind of compensation , i was basically told it’s my fault there’s absolutely no way they misinformed me it was all IN MY HEAD & there’s nothing they can do unless I remember who I spoke to that day. Jennifer the receptionist who answered the phone when I called to see what can be done refused to believe they had misinformed me . She kept saying over & over “there’s a small & large pavilion if you look online you will see there’s no way of being misinformed you were NOT told there is only one cause there is two pavilions a small & large” I tried to explain multiple times I DID see the large & small online thats the whole reason why I even called the park in the first place to confirm before I book. Tried explaining to her that when I had called to make sure there was 2 pavilions so I can book the correct one I was told there was only ONE pavilion so ANY RESERVATIONS I make will be for the ONE main pavilion they have there at the park . So of course me believing & trusting I was given the correct information , I booked the date & time for my sons party & paid the price. Then day of police got called & we had to take down all of the decor we had already put up & move to the small pavilion since online that’s what my reservation was under. Definitely huge miscommunication issue & very rude staff who try to make you feel stupid & tell you it was all in your head . Jennifer said word for word “Maybe you just wanted to believe you were booking the large Maybe you just wanted to hear what u wanted to hear” VERY RUDE !! Don’t recommend , please take your time , money & special memorable events SOMEWHERE ELSE !! You only have your first born baby’s 1st birthday party ONCE & unfortunately mine was ruined. All I want is some kind of compensation due to the fact when I remember my sons first birthday I’m going to remember being kicked out by police & being told it’s my fault because I “believed what I wanted...
Read moreAwesome!!!!! Visit was to celebrate and enjoy our oldest daughter birthday. Had some friends of her visit with their pets and children's. Rather nice day at that aas well as weather was as perfect as 7ou can expect. Picnic area was near the corner entrance to rimbus from evers. We grilled pan sausage and hot dogs with outdoor griller and.they we're nicely done. Park itself - I expected it to be busy and was surprised on arrival to see lacked parking spots near that corner street. Being an older older man I'm still young at heart but wife is different story as she unable 5o carry much at distance. So had to wait a tad longer til there was a spot to park in to avoid trekking stuff from main lot to picnic table at other end. As or main parking lot towards Bandera rd I say probably 30 to 40 parking spots were available. With that in mind you can imagine how lightly packed the park was. Being a beautiful day, weather as nice as it was it s a great day...
