MJ Barleyhoppers Brew House — Restaurant in Lewiston

We came in on a late Sunday afternoon looking for dinner. We ended up eating here because Meriwether's was closed and they said they served the same exact food.

The dinner environment wasn't very cozy. The tables and floors were dirty and the room was drafty and warm. It felt more like a dive bar than a restaurant.

Our server wasn't very knowledgeable and seemed overwhelmed.

Jessica's steak salad was good, but James' was cooked incorrectly.

They don't offer any gluten free or dairy substitute options. Additionally, they only had two ciders on tap-- no other gluten free beer options.

This was a very limiting experience for James and considering that they were charging $32 for an 8 oz. steak, it doesn't make sense to us that they aren't able to be more inclusive of those with dietary restrictions.

It may be an appropriate place to eat with friends in the future, but we wouldn't choose to come...

Menu says bottomless Mimosas on Sunday. We were in at 4. After our drinks were delivered and 1/2 consumed we were told bottomless ended at 2. After conversation with bartender drinks were charged at regular price not bottomless and no refill. Ok except Mimosa is not my go to drink at 4pm. My Reuben and sweet potato fries were good. Salmon flatbread pizza was better. Steak bites were over done and too pricey. To be fair medium rare is tricky when you are only working with 4 small chunks of steak. But bar wasn't that busy that the chef couldn't have given it 3 minutes of attention. Atmosphere was good. Staff was polite. Definitely not my worst post COVID...

I used to frequent ol MJBs because they had the best girly beer ever! But ever since Master Brewer Marv left, the place reeks of cigarette smoke and arrogance. You can actually cut the tension and attitude with a knife! Its amazing, but the staff have completely changed too... major attitude. As a serious micro-brewery hopper, take my advice... cross the river and grab a beer at the new Riverport Brewery. Blonde Moment to be exact. But heres the best part - it's Marvs joint!!! The new (truly) laid-back brewery has our vote :)
