As a hardcore lover of Korean food, I was ecstatic to hear that there was a Korean restaurant opening in town. I have been twice now but unfortunately was underwhelmed. While there is a wide selection of sides to choose from, portion sizes are small considering the price. Don't get me wrong the food is definitely good and worth a try if you have a Korean food craving - the rice they use is actually really good and you can taste the individual grains which is important - but probably not a place you need to stop by every week. I have to say though that I really disliked the kimchi here (like seriously terrible). I freaking love kimchi and have eaten a lot of kimchi at a lot of Korean restaurants, and homemade kimchi made by Korean mothers and I have to say that Woo's has the worst kimchi I have ever had which is saddening considering kimchi is a staple of any Korean meal. The other sides are good, strangely enough it's just the kimchi I have found to be subpar, so if anyone at Woo's is reading this, I recommend changing your recipe if you make it yourself or change your supplier.
All things considered I sincerely hope they stick around though, as there really aren't any other Korean offerings in the area. Also the staff here are fantastic and polite which is a bigger factor than you'd think.
Edit: Tried the kimchi again on my most recent visit and it was much better. First time I went it was doused in salt with little to no spice/sourness, this time the balance was much better, seemed like the ratio was dramatically improved with the spice/fermentation/salt ratio. Also regarding portion size, this time I went they filled the container to what I would have initially expected for $14....
Read moreStingy customer service and expensive!!!! I was the last customer for the night here once and the owner demonstrated how little he cared for my business. For starters they were out of every meat I wanted and refused to make new chicken since it took 15 minutes meanwhile they closed in 10. Ok no problem I can work with them, so instead I ordered their last meat choice. Then immediately after telling me my original meat choice was not available, and refused to make more, the owner had the opportunity to make it up to me by perhaps giving me a somewhat generous share of vegetables. My thoughts are why bother keeping some of these vegetables overnight if you have a chance to give them away and increase customer service? Unfortunately, Mr. Woo doesn't agree. He instead only gave me 3 mushrooms, but the most ridiculous part of all is that only five mushrooms were even in the bin to begin with. Basically he willingly left two mushrooms behind to be thrown away rather than offering them to his last customer of the night!!!!
Overall, I'm sad to leave this review because I enjoy his food although it is expensive considering how little portions he gives (basically paying for rice). The saddest part is every restaurant that opens in this same location has gone out of business. My impression is Woo's customer service will likely bring his companies demise. Moral of the story: DEFINITELY DO NOT GO TO WOO'S AFTER LUNCH OR DINNER, AND CERTAINLY NEVER BEFORE THEY...
Read moreWoo's Kitchen is a small Korean restaurant that serves very mild Korean food. The gal-bi that I ordered was good and average for American Korean restaurants. The rice was very good and I was happy it was done well. That was about it for good items as the sides are missing some flavor and it came with no bean paste and lettuce as well. The kim chi is good and worth getting. The raffish kim chi is not good and I would not order it again. The cucumber kim chi is on the thicker side but decent. The spicy bean sprouts are a pass as well. The owner is from Korea and the food is made for the average American and not for those that are used to real Korean food. An average place that I might try again as they have a lot of side options but are adapted to the...
