First, I LOVE Groucho's food, especially their STP's & Formula 45 sauce. I rated 3 stars because the customer service & selection could have been better.
I ordered a takeout STP with sides (from the counter, not ahead of time using the app or website). They were out of white bread so I had to have wheat (not a big fan) and they were also out of regular potato chips so I chose potato salad (honestly it wasn't great, but pretty dry). Feel free to stop reading here
Even though I wasn't thrilled they were out of a couple things, I could have easily gotten past this. It was (for lack of a better way to put it) the slightly rude way the manager & young woman who took my order acted towards me personally, that truly tainted this experience. As well as how I observed the majority of the staff (especially the manager) not hide the fact that they were ready to close & as a result were short with other customers. This was about 45-30 mins prior to closing.
However, (with me) they did attempt to fake courtesy, it just wasn't sincere. It's rare for me to include something like this in a review (or have one this long) but because I've been a customer service manager I take service seriously. I feel reviewing this aspect of any business is worth mentioning. I added further details of my experience just in case this type of behavior is off-putting enough for others to want to know ahead of time. And for any management who may check reviews to also be made aware of, especially when hiring.
I do recommend Groucho's, in general, because their food is usually delicious with everything available & other locations have pretty great customer service. If you decide to come here, try earlier in the day & maybe their selection and service will be better.
*Keep in mind this is based off of one visit & it's possible the staff were just having an "off day". (Date of my visit: Monday,...
Read moreI have been a long time loyal customer but my last two experiences have closed that loyalty and I won’t be returning. The first strike was the other month for our firms office order. Which I placed early with a select time for pick up. Yet when o arrived sat for 45 minutes while I watched parts of the order be handed to other customers. After making all the employees miss their lunch hour I was advised not to order any future lunches from here.
Last night I was attempting to support my children’s school, placed again an order for pick up, and due to an uncontrollable event I was an hour late in pick up. I arrive to NO ORDER. I hear chatter in the back about potato salad (which I had 3 orders of) and her a guy say “she’s an hour late”. A sweet girl comes out and says “we ran out of potato salad, but he refunded you.” So, a lie to cover her coworker. And let me say NO ONE from the restaurant even called me at any point. So I tell her to skip the side and I’ll just take my order, assuming it is just in the back. NO, they either ate it, used it for other orders or disregarded as I had to stand there and wait for them to make it.
The same voice I heard in the back prior came to me, went to hand me a bag and said “I just made it as normal if that’s ok.” No this is not ok I replied as my husband has allergies. I refused the order and requested a refund. Mr too cool sighed and said “it’s going to take me a minute”. Needless To say the disrespect and horrible customer service has secured the nails in the coffin for this...
Read moreGroucho's Deli is a SC favorite. I always get an all turkey apollo and devour every last drop of my formula 45 sauce. It doesn't matter which Groucho's you visit the taste is always consistent. It's always delivered fast and it's fairly priced. I lived in Lexington for a long time and always visited that location. I now live downtown but anytime i get together with friends for lunch someone always suggests the Lexington Groucho's. It isn't about the location, it's about the girls that work there. The staff has been there for years and they are always so friendly and remember you. That's pretty difficult considering the place fills up with entire sports teams and what often appears to be a table of 8 small kids and two adults. The place can get loud but the servers always have a smile on their face. My order has never been wrong at this location, i've never wanted to send anything back and i've never had to ask for a refill even when it's obvious they are slammed. Speaking of refills, there are only two places i will order sweet tea and Groucho's is one of them, it's divine! If you want the real Groucho's Deli experience visit the one in Lexington and you...
