Back at Ramblin' Mule after setting up for a multi-year high school reunion. Angela, who served me on my first visit in April, is bartending again today. She recognized me as we greeted each other. Had a shot of tequila with a Corona Light to take the edge off the anxiousness for a successful event. Chicken Quesadilla with a side of steamed broccoli were the choices of the day. Everything was hot and tasty. I managed to grab photos before I dug in. Ramblin' Mule is just off the intersection of Hwy 378 and Charter Oaks, sharing a parking lot with a gym. Please make Ramblin' Mule your next destination for a meal.
Tuesday, April 1, 2025 -- No foolin'!! Caught this place out the corner of my eye a couple weeks ago. It sits next to Planet Fitness at Charter Oaks and Hwy 378.
Did not arrive until almost 2 pm, which worked for me -- the crowd was gone. Grabbed a seat at the bar and asked for a Bloody Mary and a menu. Most menu items are $8.99 and above, which is pretty average these days.
My Bloody Mary arrived as I was looking over the menu. The Bloody Mary is quite delicious, by the way. Started with the Wisonsin White Cheddar Cheese Curds with Marinara dipping sauce. I spotted the Chicken Salad Sandwich on Sourdough for my main meal. Watching my overall carb intake, I asked our lovely bartender, Angela, if I could get it "naked" (no bread) with maybe an extra piece of lettuce and sliced tomato. She was happy to oblige. As a side, I was all over the Steamed Broccoli.
The Chicken Salad is really good. The chicken is nicely seasoned and seemed to be both chopped and shredded. What I really liked was the entire mixture had a good hearty consistency, not soupy. Don't you hate that....when places make chicken puree, rather than chicken salad???
Folks, the broccoli was steamed perfectly -- softened with ample integrity remaining in both the stems AND the flowerettes. Most restaurants ruin their broccoli by "hard" boiling it or grossly over-steaming to mush. My compliments to the kitchen staff at Ramblin' Mule and a hearty well done.
As usual, I started eating my entre without getting a photograph first. Sorry, but you can see the plating was nicely done.
They have TouchTunes and a Golden Tee video game in the bar area.
Conveniently situated when you're in Lexington, Gilbert, and Lake Murray areas. If you're traveling down I-20, hop off at Long's Pond Rd. and Ramblin' Mule is only 10 minutes up the road. ...
Read moreMy wife and I have been meaning to try this restaurant for sometime. Our neighbors had nothing but good things to say about it. Yesterday we finally made it for lunch and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is nice and the service is excellent. Our server Mercedes was pleasant, engaging and attentive. We placed our order after perusing the menu of very creative dishes. We had trouble making up our mind because they all looked so delicious. My wife chose The Mule Fried Chicken ; hand breaded and fried over mashed potatoes with homestyle chicken gravy and a side of broccoli ( a portion so large she shared with me ). The chicken was a little chewy but excellent flavor regardless. I was hanker’n for a good Philly cheese steak sandwich with grilled peppers, mushrooms and onions so I ordered the Philly Cheese as a wrap ( diabetic ) which comes with the best fries both of us have ever had! Yes the portion of fries was so large I shared them with my wife. We will definitely come again. Thanks so much for opening the Ramblin Mule in our neck of the woods, good restaurants are hard to find outside of chain...
Read moreThis place is more of a local hangout for drinkers than it is a place to eat. We were the only customers on the restaurant side, and the bar area was full. They were somewhat loud, which put a damper on our dining experience. The food is mediocre. I had the chicken sandwich, and it was edible, I guess. My sweet potato fries were bland and cold. My husband ordered the burger and had to be sent back because it was practically raw. He likes his burgers well done. The second burger was still undercooked. The bottom line is that the food is basically all frozen food that you just throw on the griddle or in the deep fryer. For the price we paid we expected more quality. The only thing good that came out of our night was the waitress. Also, every person who entered the kitchen did not have hairnets or proper attire. Thankfully, there were no hairs in our food. If you want quick, greasy, frozen bar food, then you'll get what you pay for. Other than that, there are so many better places to eat. Do not recommend it unless you just like to drink...
