If you're looking for the best donuts in Lexington, look no further than Spalding's Bakery! These donuts are simply PERFECTION. Whether you're a fan of yeast or cake donuts, they have it all, but for me, the yeast donuts steal the show every time.
Each donut is a masterpiece, from their classic glazed and chocolate to the cinnamon twists, long johns, and cinnamon rolls. They even offer an assortment of other goodies, including reasonably priced cakes! Every bite is nostalgic, transporting me back to childhood mornings when my dad would bring home a box of donuts.
This local gem has been around for over 90 years, and it's easy to see why they've stood the test of time. The line out the door speaks for itself, and trust me, it's worth the wait.
Their space is grab-and-go (no indoor seating), but that just adds to the charm. I'll happily wake up early whenever friends or family visit, just to grab a fresh assortment to share.
To top it off, they've embraced modern times and now accept all kinds of payments. Spalding's Bakery isn't just a spot for donuts; it's a piece of Lexington's heart. Here's to 90 more years...
Read moreGreat donuts! I too found out the hard way about the cash only policy although I wasn't apparently as lucky as a the previous poster. My only possible gripe is the long wait. But you come to expect it no matter when you get there because great donuts create great demand.
As a side note to the disgruntled yahoo with the "powdered sugar", "cinnamon sugar", ect problem I ask this....did you even bother to check your order before you left the store? If you are that picky over your order then the blame lies entirely on you.I have never been here and ordered a dozen donuts and the person at the counter NOT offer to double check to make sure my order is correct. Perhaps you had the one day when someone was off their game, maybe a new employee, whatever. If you have that much butt-sore going on you might be a tad more picky than most other people. Keep in mind that sense of entitlement makes most people far more difficult to please than they need to be....
Read moreChanges are not good.... the doughnuts, I'm sad to say are different now. I'm not sure why they changed but they are no longer any different than a gas station doughnut.... I have been eating Spalding's since i was a child and the past year it's been way different. They taste undercooked and are too uniform. They are not the one side dough bubble , one side crunchy, and each of the doughnuts looked different and tasted amazing...Shape when frying matters, undercooked dough is gross.
If I didn't just walk in and buy them myself I would swear what I just bought is not Spalding's. I first thought it was just a bad day but, nope... it's just bad now.
I hope they change them back. I am not interested in driving into Lexington at 6 am for what I just got.
I noticed in my pasts visits over the past year the line which use to be out the door and around the building is not there any more. A line that lasted decades is gone..... I think that...
