The place is not much to look at, but the food is good.

First, I asked the waitress for translations of a couple of terms in the menu. She didn't know the English equivalents. I eventually figured it out on my phone with Google Translate.

I had a combination platter with a steak asada taco, a chile relleno (poblano pepper filled with ground beef), and an enchilada al pastor (seasoned pork), with sides of refried beans and red rice. The three entrees were very good, the rice and beans okay if a little bland. Each table has a shaker on it, the same potbellied kind of shaker with big holes on top that pizza joints put grated cheese and chili flakes into. Not the usual salt shaker with tiny holes. I thought it might be some kind of Mexican cheese, like cotija or another grated cheese, so I sprinkled some on my rice and beans. Gag! It was either salt or maybe even an MSG seasoning. I never asked, but I left the rest of those sides alone after that.

When it comes to restaurants coming in clutch, I doubt anywhere I eat will ever top this place. Back in November 2019, I got stranded in Chicago when a snowstorm blew in and turned my hour or so layover into a one-night stay at a dingy motel.

I'd hardly eaten on the nine hour flight home from London after a huge breakfast. I was absolutely famished by the time I got checked in after being stranded a few hours at ORD.

This place was right across the street from the hotel, and it hit the spot with Hawkeye-caliber bullseye. The man who helped me was super nice and my burrito bowl was one of most delicious I'd ever had.

If I ever get back to Chicago, I'm making a point to visit this place...

One of the best steak tacos in the Chicago area and that is not an exaggeration. I've eaten my fair share at many of the top spots. This unassuming restaurant surely gets driven past by many hungry people.... Stop. Walk in and enjoy some delicious Mexican food.
