It is always a great small town where people still greet you with a smile and say How are you? Once I even had several people walking by offer to help us unload my car. Even offered to carry things upstairs. I thought those days of others offering help was over. But not in Ligonier, the town I remembered from years ago. A lot of old shops are still there. Different names but same building. I miss Martin's where he measured your waist, inseam etc and got you the best pair of pants. I remember I needed pants for a school program and I didnt have one pair of pants or white dress shirt. My dad took me up to see Mr. Martin, who quickly measured me then told my dad he would have to alter the closest to my size. I was very thin then. In a week my mom told me that the store called to come in for a final fitting. Perfect size, length and color. They dont do much alterations in small town shops anymore. I think Martin's was the last of that kind. Walk the main st and see it hasn't changed very much. FORT LIGONIER DAYS is the place to visit if you love parades, and re-enactments battles. The museum of artifacts of the Forts history. Saturday is a big day and the lines are so long for everything. So I suggest Sunday if you want to enjoy everything from the Forts tours to craft booths. This year the booths from the local groups had better prices with food and their food was just as good if not better than those from out of town. I noticed this year you didnt see repeat tents of vendors. The ones at the Y and adjoining parking lot offered the same as last year. This year I stopped at 90% of the craft booths or tents and found something new at each one. Prices however went up from last year more than $4. Thankful however the local food vendors stayed the same. So visit Ligonier anytime of the year and you will fall in love if you are into small town flavor. Support our local vendors. Go see Dan and Bev at the old news stand which is now American Outfitters anything from hunting, or just wanting warm outerwear hats gloves boots shoes etc. And you can still buy the newspapers. I hope ligonier keeps with the small town flare. So many new homes going up around the outer streets of the town but what I enjoyed seeing is many stayed with the colonial feel. Ligonier is my hometown and will always be my home...
