Call I called in my order because I didn't want to spend any extra time inside due to covid. The person who answered the phone was very short and wanted the order very quickly and then when he asked how long before we could get there I said we're sitting outside. He said well you should have just come inside in a kind of a stern voice. He said it would be 15 to 20 minutes. So I was sitting in my car waiting and after about 10 minutes a man came out and stood by our car. I put my mask on and opened the door and he says I've been shouting your name for 15 minutes. He said the guy on the phone told you it would be only 5 minutes. I said no he actually said it would be 15 to 20. Anyway I had asked for extra tartar sauce and he told me that a cup of tartar sauce was like a whole cup of tartar sauce. So I am asked for two extra. I like lots of tartar sauce I even said I'll pay for extra if I need to. When I got the order and paid I went out to the car and there were only two total tartar sauces in the hole bag. There were two full orders in the bag so not even enough of a regular order for tartar sauce. And they were regular size tartar sauce containers which is about maybe three tablespoons if you're being generous. So I went back in to get some more tartar sauce. A different man who is back apparently cooking started shouting that I had asked for eight f*** tartar sauces. I only asked for four extras. And I'm willing to pay for them. He actually used the f word. I doubt they'll be in service long the food wasn't too bad it was actually pretty good. The tartar sauce wasn't so great the service...
Read moreAte here just last Friday at Noon and we were especially pleased. This is a very small establishment that does a few things extremely well with a bare minimum of overhead. During our experience there were three people doing everything: two working in the kitchen preparing food and the third ( owner's better half partner ) was taking orders, managing the till, and bringing food to all the tables and cleaning them when customers were finished! Orders are not cooked ahead of time so do not come here thinking that this is a "fast food" restaurant because it isn't. You will wait at least a half-hour to 45 minutes to get your order. At the time of our visit every table was taken and there were a dozen customers standing in line waiting to place their order. The locals love this place and that is always a good indication. I had the 3-piece halibut fish and chips basket and my wife had the 5-piece shrimp basket and both orders included a small serving of really good coleslaw. The deep fry batter they use here is light and not overly salty or rich. Contrast that with Georgie's Beachside Grill in Newport where the 3-piece halibut fish and chips runs $19.95, is almost too rich to eat, and it doesn't even come with a salad. We come to the Oregon Coast to enjoy fresh Halibut Fish and Chips and the only other restaurant that maybe does it slightly better in Lincoln City is Pier 101 at twice the price because of waiters and tips. If you love seafood, have a family and are on a budget this is without question the best place in Lincoln...
Read moreIn our quest to find world-class fish & chips on the Oregon coast, we happened upon J's. It's a tiny place that hardly qualifies as a restaurant, with only 6-8 small tables. You order at the front, and your order is brought to your table. Takeout is available too. We visited at 3:30 on a Wednesday afternoon, when there were plenty of places to sit. While my cod fish & chips tasted delicious, with a panko-style breading on the fish and a choice of regular or curly fries (or potato chips), I couldn't help noticing all of the unfriendly edicts in the restaurant. Everywhere I looked, there was a warning or instruction: don't throw away the baskets, don't save seats, plastic straws litter the ocean, it'll cost you extra to use a debit or credit card, don't move tables, order first then be seated, no substitutions, no pets, and take your garbage with you. Kind of made me nervous about making a wrong move and getting kicked out. The young man behind the counter offered extra fries when I said I didn't want coleslaw, but he brought me coleslaw. When I mentioned it, he said he forgot to write it down. No apology or offer to bring more fries or remove the coleslaw, even though I had tipped him at the counter, when I paid for my order. Soft drinks are filled behind the counter in plastic cups ($.50 for refills). Again, the fish was excellent but the experience could've been a bit better. By the time we left, we were laughing at - and counting - all...
