I recently had a terrible experience at a restaurant during brunch with my friends. Although the food and our waiter were satisfactory, the owner's customer service was extremely disappointing.
The incident occurred on Thursday, when we, a group of 4 women, were finishing our meal, paid the bill, and tipped our waiter around noon. As we were wrapping up, the owner suddenly approached us. We thought he was approaching to ask us how the experience was, but instead, he accused us of staying too long, stating that we had been in the restaurant since 9 am. This was false, as we had all agreed to meet at 10 am. We looked around and saw that there was no line, and there were empty tables available. The owner insisted he had reviewed CCTV footage and said that we had been there for over three hours, which was not true. He then ordered us to empty the table.
We asked him if there was a written policy that stated we could not stay for more than two hours, and he said there was no such policy, but whatever he says goes because he is the owner. Additionally, when we asked the owner to show us the CCTV footage, he refused. In an effort to prove our innocence, I took out my phone and showed him our group chat, which clearly showed that we met at 10 am. However, even after seeing this evidence, the owner continued to insist that we had been in the restaurant since 9 am, then stormed off.
His confrontational attitude was deeply offensive, and we asked the waiter to bring him back to apologize. He came back, and we told him he owed us an apology. In response, he quickly said sorry, however, it was clear that he did not show any remorse, because he said it hurriedly and quickly walked away. His rude behavior ruined our dining experience and humiliated us.
This incident was not an isolated case, as I later learned that a friend had experienced a similar encounter. Our waiter informed us that this was just part of the owner's personality, which is unacceptable for someone who is in the hospitality industry.
Furthermore, I want to mention that my family, friends, and I have been loyal customers of this restaurant for the past 25 years, and we have never experienced such unprofessionalism and hostility from the owner before. It is truly disappointing to see such a beloved restaurant tainted by the owner's behavior.
As a longtime patron, I had always recommended this restaurant to others and had even planned to continue my tradition of hosting family gatherings and events there. However, after this experience, I cannot in good conscience continue to support a business that condones such treatment of its customers.
I hope that the owner takes steps to address this behavior and improve the overall customer experience, but until then, I cannot recommend this...
Read moreWent here to enjoy a late breakfast on Sunday. The line was literally out the door, which was a good sign that the food must be worth the wait.
Surprisingly, we only stood in that line for about 15 minutes, so it wasn’t as bad as one might expect. They seem to keep things moving pretty efficiently.
The interior of this place is just as charming as the old world exterior, with stained glass windows, beautiful woodwork, and a very homey vibe.
The tables, especially the two tops, are very “cozy” with little room for winter coats and handbags, so travel light if you are coming here.
And finally for the food- was it worth the wait? We ordered a few things that looked interesting:
The Venetian Eggs Benedict - definitely recommend. They need a touch of salt and pepper, which I prefer to being overly seasoned, and the poached egg could be a bit runnier, but overall they tasted wonderful. The spinach and mushrooms really added another layer of flavor, I would order these again.
The Blue Crab Eggs Benedict- my husband liked them at first, but the crab became quickly overpowering. He shared my Venetian version and preferred them as well.
Side of bacon - came with 3 slices of some of the best bacon I have ever had in a restaurant. A must try!
Side of Hash browns (with onions supposedly) - didn’t see any grilled onions on this, but the hash browns were good overall. Needed a bit of salt and pepper, or some salsa/hot sauce to really make them worth the price.
Blueberry Pancakes - our Eggs Benedict dishes came with pancakes, so we upgraded mine to blueberry and they were heavenly. I am not a big pancake eater, but these were worth all the calories. Don’t forget the syrup- the powdered sugar and blueberry compote is fine, but the syrup makes them irresistible.
Fresh fruit - also came with our order, and was really fresh. I have had many experiences of getting a side of fruit with my breakfast only to be met with bitter, out of season strawberries and cheap melon. This was not that - the side of fruit was a perfect way to balance out those heavy pancakes.
Prices - this isn’t an inexpensive place, $65 (before tip) for two people, but the quality of the food and taste do make up for it. The service is also very friendly and comfortable.
My husband, who is generally more conscious of prices, even felt the same way. So we will be back, and this may become our new...
Read moreIf you relish bad service and poor food quality this restaurant is for you. To start my two dining companions received parts of their order while I waited another 10 minutes for my food, with the wait person's excuse that the cook was behind, which was a Captain Obvious statement. (I wondered why did you bring out my dining companions food so early?) Additionally, my companions were missing sides they had ordered (bacon and hash browns).
Once all had their entire order, two of the dishes an omlet and an apple pancake were cooked correctly, unfortunately my Belgium Waffle, which had taken the extra 10 minutes was burnt on one side; however, not the side I saw when the plate was put down. One companion noted it, but the side I was eating was a step above burnt and was edible. Of course my companion was right and I found it was more then burnt edges it was the entire half of the waffle, which was covered with whipped cream and strawberries making it difficult to observe the level of burntness. The waffle was inedible. Somehow I successfully flagged the wait person and got their attention and when I stated that the waffle was burnt their response was "I am sorry", which is appropriate but there was no offer to make it right. 😒 I asked for another soda, which was never received. Additionally, coffee was not readily filled for my one dining companion. This lack of detail must correlate to imagined savings for the owner.
This was a poorly managed wait team with no quality control and with no general manager in sight. When paying at the front, I did not receive the question how was was the food instead they took the bill and my card with no comment.
From my perspective instead of attending to the details like filling coffee cups and drinks there was a lot of running to and from the kitchen empty handed. One of my companions observed another individual at different table also having problems getting what they ordered.
As we were leaving my one companion stated that they had suggested the restaurant as they always had a positive experience and they concluded the restaurant has gone down in service and quality. I...
