I hate to leave negative reviews and comments but after our experience tonight I can't hold my tongue. Our family has been coming to Los Hermanos religiously for many many years and we have had good experiences until the last two times we have come here.
I prefer to leave praise and positive comments so I'll start with those. The two stars I am giving are for our two waitresses who worked their butts off for us tonight. They weren't perfect and we had to ask multiple times to get things we needed like silverware, napkins and things like this but that is understandable when there are only two of them serving our big group. They worked frantically to serve us and fix any mistakes and they even apologized when they made mistakes, unlike the hostess. It can't be easy for just two young ladies to serve a group of 18 people with split up orders and a busy restaurant but they just kept going up and down the stairs to take care of us.
One missing star is for the hostess and the manager. We had a reservation set and even showed up 10 minutes early. 40 minutes after our reservation time I asked the hostess how much longer it would be. She looked down at her papers and then got a shocked look on her face and eventually admitted she had forgotten about us. I don't know how you forget about 18 people crammed into a small waiting area when you have to go around us dozens of times to do your job. We also talked with the manager who was very apologetic and finally got us seated but she was not to be seen again the whole night. Most restaurants I go to if there is a problem the managers bend over backwards to make it right and come check on you to make sure it is taken care of. Not so much here. If they were short staffed I can understand that and am very patient with that but the manager should have helped our poor waitresses out. The glare and turned back from the hostess as we left was just the icing on the cake, as if it were our fault they had forgotten about us and our reservation.
Another missing star is for the bland food. We have eaten at Los Hermanos so many times we know they can have good food but the food tonight was small portions, very bland seasoned dry meat and they have changed their chips and it's not an improvement.
The last missing star is for the condition of the restaurant overall. Starting from the disgusting dirty carpets that are so dirty that my feet and the feet of my chair would stick to it. Every chair in our group was broken, wobbly and falling apart and there were three more extra chairs in our room including broken chair parts lying around on the floor. The tables were mis-matched, wobbly and had dirty sticky tops even after we had to request they be washed off because there was still food on them from the last group. The dishes are chipped, cracked, scratched and mismatched so bad it looks very unsanitary and unprofessional. On our way out of the restaurant the kitchen door opened and after seeing the disgusting condition of the kitchen I wish I wouldn't have eaten any food there tonight. I would suggest to Los Hermanos that they invest a bit of money in the upkeep of their restaurant and food serving supplies.
After tonight's disaster of a dining experience or faithful Los Hermanos going family all decided we will not be back unless they make some drastic changes. They are always busy and if they can't invest some money to make the restaurant a cleaner and nicer experience then they will continue to lose customers. It's sad to see a family favorite fall apart and turn into something an easy going family like mine now...
Read moreI must preface my review with two caveats: 1. I've lived 60 years in Texas, where BBQ and TexMex are king, and 2. I've eaten at Los Hermanos in Provo, where my dining experience was much better.
To start with, I was seated in the "sun room" at the back of the restaurant (pic), which was noticeably colder from leaving the warmth and comfort of the main dining floor - and this, despite the many open tables available there. After being seated, I noticed the floor under my feet was filled with lettuce and tomato scraps from a previous diner. I moved myself to an adjoining table, only to find the floor under that table covered with water. I finally found a table without a mess. When my waitress finally showed up, another waitress came in and cleaned up under the first table. I notified my waitress why I had moved, showing her the messes. The 2nd table was never cleaned under.
On top of that, I realized that the ceiling over my head had large bubbles of peeling paint, where water has been leaking through from the roof (pics). Since it had just rained, I was nervous! Never dropped, but sure looked like it would any second.
I ordered my a Dr. Pepper, water, Chili con Queso Los Hermanos, and the House Specialty, Taco Loco. After my drinks, the first to arrive was the Queso dip - but no chips. After a couple of minutes, my chips and salsa finally were served. I dug into the queso- bland!!! The appetizer was promised as "Our very own blend of premium cheeses, chile peppers, fresh diced tomatoes, and a medley of other choice ingredients." Well, not so. It was 99% cheese, and tasted that way - nothing to enhance and liven the taste. Total disappointment. I even added salsa to the dip, hoping to save it, to no availI (pic). I was left to the chips and salsa.
However, after about 10 chips, all I had left was a bowl 1/2 full of broken pieces (pics), like I got the bottom of the barrel. So much for chips.
Finally, the Taco Loco arrived. It looked great! Fresh ingredients, topped with a good-looking guacamole, tomato and black olive. I dove in!
Dissapointment!! The guacamole was soooo bland, like near unsalted and very little, if any lime. And they must be using some kind of filler, because you couldn't taste the avacados at all. Just a green mush. THEN, there was the meat. I had ordered the beef Taco Loco, expecting some deliciously seasoned ground beef (the menu only says "beef"). Alas, it was pulled roast beef (pics), and NOT seasoned with any Mexican spices. Just salt and pepper. BORING!!! It was like eating a mushy green salad on top of roast beef. UGH!!!
Lastly, I realized as I was eating that I had a really hard time adjusting my chair. Turns out, the floor is super tacky. The varnish is tacky, from years of use, I guess (pics). Needs a total refinish - at least in the sunroom.
Overall, a VERY disappointing meal. Food bland and unseasoned, with no "Mexican" flavor at all. Place dirty, leaking and unrepaired. Won't...
Read moreMyself, and two others went to Los Hermanos for the first time ever this past Friday. We were expecting delicious authentic food (which, I lived near Phoenix for a while, so I KNOW good Hispanic food). But instead we got chicken that tasted like it was served out of a can, chips that tasted like the fryer they were cooked in (which was a nasty flavor), and the salsa that came with the chips tasted like really cheap tomato sauce, and the service there was HORRIBLE. Our waitress came briefly after we were seated (a 20 minute wait just to be seated in a nearly empty restaurant) and the waitress didn't come back again with our waters we ordered for another 20 minutes and then didn't come back to us again to get our entree order until it was almost 45 minutes of us sitting there waiting. We weren't offered bean or guacamole dip to go with our chips either - but the table next to us was. The entree's took about 20 minutes to be served to us. We finally got our food, and to our disappointment, it tasted horrible. We all wanted to try something different, and all of what we ordered was horrible. The enchilada and tostada are what I had when I went there. I cut into my enchilada and it was that canned chicken, just a pile of it - that's literally all that was inside my enchilada, no seasoning, no sauce, no nothing. The cheese on top of my enchilada looked great, but taking the first bite, I choked because it was sooo stringy and cheesy that I couldn't swallow the huge blob in my mouth, half of it went down and the other half didn't - not fun! There was also no enchilada sauce - it was just topped with stringy melted cheese. The tostada was a huge pile of the nasty dry canned chicken, some shredded lettuce and a dallop of sour cream, a very small amount of guacamole, and a little bit of salsa to go with it. Oh, but I'm not done yet! Underneath it all there was less than an inch of rice, portion was about the size of a small child's hand, and weirdly... crumbled chips on top of the rice? and maybe 2 spoonfuls of beans that went with it. Worst meal I've ever had going out to eat! Terrible taste. Total waste of a Friday night and a HUGE waste money. I didn't want to even put a star on this review, but had to in order to post this - I think everyone should know what they're about...
