There aren't many bakeries in northern Washington County and Southern Chisago County. So, we enjoy going to the Lindstrom Bakery to get fresh-baked items.
There is a nice selection of pastries, cookies, and breads. It is easy to purchase treats for the entire family for under $5.
It's a bit smaller than the bakery I remember visiting when I was a child living in north Minneapolis, but it has that typical bakery smell the minute you walk in the door. It brings back good memories of a simpler and happier time.
There are health food items, crafts, pop, and other miscellaneous items available throughout the store.
There is a little eating area with tables and chairs if you want to eat your breakfast or treat there and not in the car.
For this visit, my daughter ordered a filled doughnut which she enjoyed. We brought back home rosettes which were delicate and lightly dusted with powdered sugar. I have never been able to make these successfully, so it's a real treat when I find them.
We will definitely be going to Lindstrom Bakery...
Read moreWe drove 61 miles to try the voted best bakery with the best swedish donuts in MN. (7/19/21) It was so NOT worth the trip! First off you notice the dingy, grimy dirtiness of the place. The selection was pitiful & obviously made cheaply. (Anything frosted didn't even have a gram of frosting, for example.) The guy behind the counter was very rude, curt & unkempt. We perched on a icky bench outside to taste our purchases. The "best" donuts were very dry, tasteless & clearly old. To give the bakery a fair chance, we had also purchased the almond chocolate chunk cookies. They were VERY stale, rock hard & the one tiny bit of chocolate in the whole cookie tasted artificial. I have had much better bakery items at gas stations! We do not understand how this place was even put on the list of consideration, let alone winning the best bakery in MN. We will never return to this business & would warn others against doing so. Not even worthy of half a star but had to put at least 1 star on in...
Read moreI appreciate small businesses but this was a real let down for me. Please keep your restroom clean. Add butter, shortening, or some oil to the cookies. The chocolate chip cookies had a bad mouthfeel, like eating a chunk of hard sand that made a mess. The bismark looking coffee cake seemed like it was made as a way to deal with left overs, it was not good. The dough was dry and plain. Stir in fruit, cream cheese, or some cinnamon, brown sugar, and butter in plain dough like that. A mouthful of dry bread is uncomfortable eat. The sugar icing on top was too much thick solid sugar icing, it should be a little more whipped and frosting like. It didn't combine well on plain bread. The customer service was wonderful. Take a road trip to the Backerei in New Ulm to do a little benchmarking and I hope it brings you some inspiration on european...
