Well, leave it to Greco's Italian Ices and Homemade Ice Cream located in Lititz, PA to ruin a fun night out for my Stage 4 cancer-ridden mom. I would give this 0 stars if I could. (Note: I had the business name tagged in a Facebook post, but now the tag is gone. Also, the owner repeatedly kept tagging me on the Facebook post and gaslighting what really happened. Just look at the other reviews on here, and you'll see what I mean about his gaslighting.) To cool off, my mom and I went to Grecos's and ordered two large soft serve dishes: one vanilla and one chocolate. My mom tasted her chocolate dish, and it tasted bad and is unlike every soft serve Ice cream she has had in her life. She also noticed sand-like granules in her Ice cream. I also tasted it and agreed that it was bad. My mom couldn't eat it. It was DISGUSTING. I went back into the store and asked for a refund, and the answer was a flat no from the young female shift manager. I then asked if they could at least swap it out for a scoop of hard Ice cream, and she refused. I informed my mom they said no to proper customer service, and she asked me to obtain the manager/owner's phone number to talke about the situation because she can't hobble down the non-handicap-accesible steps to the store. I went back inside and asked for the manager (who the girl said was her,) and then I asked for her manager (the owner's) name and number. She refused to give any information and kept arguing that there's nothing wrong with the machine and we received what we ordered. What actually happened is that we did not receive a soft serve chocolate dish but rather bad-tasting Ice cream with sand-like particles in it. It is very bad. The girl manager called the owner from the back room, and he kept insisting there's nothing wrong with the Ice cream, refused to make it right, and informed the girl that they would call the cops if I didn't leave. I never raised my voice or was hostile. All I wanted was for them to make it right. The non-caring robotic attitude from the owner and staff are unacceptable. All of this over a scoop...
Read moreWe LOVED Greco’s while under the previous ownership. My family and I were there all of the time, since we live so close. I was especially excited to visit with the new ownership. The new ownership seems to be very involved with the community, which is great! But sadly, I’m not sure if we will be back for the following reasons: The cost seems to be higher. I had to say no to my kids when they wanted their normal ice cream. ONE “medium” two scoop ice cream with a waffle cone was something like $8.15. We had to figure out a way to make it cheaper (we decided on no waffle cones). The portion size seems to be smaller. My two scoop was put in a little plastic dish, and it just seemed so, so small. The menu is now either flashing quickly on a screen/laminated menu that has been touched all day/code to scan to see on a phone. My kids really miss the simple menu board that was easy to see. The flavors no longer change daily. I think they change monthly now? And I could be wrong, but there appears to be less flavors. My kids used to love to see all of the ever-changing flavors that were being advertised for the day, and deciding if they wanted to go or not. My ice cream flavor wasn’t right. I have ordered my flavor a million times. It seemed less creamy, and was missing the peanut butter cups it was supposed to have. Could have been an unlucky scoop. The indoor sitting area is just…bare walls and white. I’m sure the previous owner wanted to take his stuff with him. But I was hoping to see something on the walls. The shop used to be so cozy.
I totally understand the new ownership needs to deal with increasing costs. And they want to modernize the place. It’s just that we are used to how things used to be, and a lot has changed.
EDITED TO ADD 4/4/23 - thanks for the thoughtful and detailed response Greco’s!! We will take you up on your offer, visit again in about a month, and re-consider the rating. ...
Read moreThe employees at Grecco's are welcoming and friendly. They serve Italian ice and homemade ice cream. You can get your ice cream in a dish, a cone, a pretzel cone, a waffle cone, or a chocolate chip cone. They also serve milkshakes and flurries, and have a wide variety of ice cream flavors, including a few that include Wilbur chocolate. They have tables for customers inside as well as picnic tables outside. It's definitely a popular place. Every time I've been there, they've been busy and we've had to wait in line. But they do a good job keeping the line moving.
Yes, there are some changes since it is under new ownership, and it's always sad, when you live in an area and support a local business for years, to see it change hands and then have the new owners change some of your favorite things. However, that should be expected as a new owner understandably wants to make the business their own. It's important to give the new owners a chance, and to expect them to keep everything as the original owners had it and do everything the same way the original owners did is unfair. So, instead of comparing the new owners to the old, I would like to encourage you to give them a chance and not base your decision on whether or not to continue to support the business on one or two visits in the first year of...
