The Julius Sturgis Pretzel Bakery is a cute little shop. It is difficult to spot as it is small and on a busy street so keep your eyes peeled. It has a small parking lot adjacent to the building and spots fill up on the weekend. Out front is a life-sized salted pretzel statue which is the perfect spot for a photo. Inside is pretty small. On the left is the tour area and on the right is the pretzel shop. It can be cramped with a lot of people in it but they sell a wide variety of flavored pretzels and other snacks as well as some decorative items. The prices are really good and some of the regular-sized bags were only $1.00 each. The tour was interesting for both kids and adults, providing a history of the business and showing the old-fashioned ovens that were used it bake the pretzels. Kids would like the crafty part where they practice rolling pretzels out of clay. Don't expect anything super exciting because you don't watch pretzels being mass-produced in a modern factory setting. It was a nice place to stop for a quick-ish trip - and we have gone more than once - but due to it's small size, busy atmosphere, and there being not much to do here, I...
Read moreThis is a great find in Lititz PA. They are the first and oldest Pretzel Bakery in America. It has stayed in the family for generations and the young woman who gave us our tour said she was 7th generation Sturgis and hoped to someday put her name on the building. The building is small . The tour , which costs $6 pp, doesn't take very long. Maybe 15 minutes. All of the original pretzel making techniques are still there although no longer in use. There is a small section which she said is still operational today. The tour is somewhat interactive. At the end of the tour we each get a small bag of their pretzel twists and are led out to their gift shop which is quite extensive for such a small place. They even have soft pretzels to buy. We did our due diligence and purchased several bags of assorted varieties. My one critique would be the young woman herself. She was not the best spoken tour guide and talked in a high pitched voice that could rub the nerves a bit if the tour would have gone on longer than it did. She was neither skilled or comfortable doing it. We loved the history, the location and the story. Worth bearing a...
Read moreI had booked a tour with Allison a couple weeks back, perhaps sometime in May, and I have been thinking about how amazing the tour was, and how changed I have been. Ever since she helped guide the tour, I have been so involved in my local town's history and past and it has made me so knowledgeable and happy to learn about the culture and heritage of our little town. She was such a joy to meet and she was able to share so much beautiful information about this lovely establishment. she was such a beacon of light while visiting this humble little abode. My little angels back home, are always asking to visit again because of how touched they were by her stunning tour - my little Angela is always asking "Gammy when can we see Allison and eat the little horse and buggy pretzels again"! 🥨 🥨 🥨 🥨 🥨 🥨 🥨 10/10 service!!!!!! Will definitely be asking for Allison again!!!! Also, thanks for your recommendation to visit Nino's while we were out here!!! Angela loveddddddd the caesar...
