I've been here a several times within the last year and my assessment is I enjoy food here most of the time. I cannot attest to the authenticity of the food or how accurate dishes are to what one might order in Japan. My initial thought upon entering the place was it seemed a bit contrived; it just did not feel authentic. Aesthetically, the restaurant is charming and quaint with a warm, crimson color scheme and various ornamental trinkets. Also, there is a small shop in the front of the restaurant where you can buy various Japanese snacks, foods, and novelties. Very cute!
Every time I have sat down, the server brings out hot towels, which is very refreshing, before taking drink orders.
Mostly, the food was satisfactory, but that really was dependent on the day. Perhaps it has to do with the person preparing the food? Unfortunately, I cannot remember the names of all the dishes I have eaten, but I do remember their tuna tartare is quite lovely, the ramen tends to be high in salt, the octopus dumplings have a strange, post-fresh taste, and the sauce at the bottom of the katsuyadon(?) bowel was terrific.
Back to the quality of the food, I believe the food could be better if more attention was paid to the ingredients used in each dish. It's understandable that frozen seafood may not always taste as good compared to its fresher counterpart, but what is not acceptable is trying to mask said frozen taste with other flavors.
Given the limited options in town, this is actually one of the better places to go for solid East Asian food....
Read moreI have never eaten at a Japanese restaurant and I don't like sushi, so I wasn't sure what to expect. However, my husband and I were invited to dinner by my boss from a job I held several years ago and who is still a good friend of mine, so we met him and one of his clients there for dinner about 3 months ago. I wasn't crazy about the food, but I think that's just because I don't care for Japanese food personally. The three men I was dining with all seemed to enjoy their meals very much. The wait staff was very efficient and attentive and extremely nice. Service was excellent and the presentation of the food was quite attractive. The decor of the restaurant was exquisite. Very tastefully done, with a definite Japanese flare just as it should be.... in my humble opinion of course. That's why I decided to give this restaurant such a high rating - it just doesn't seem fair to give it a lower rating because of my own personal tastei when it was quite obvious my dinner mates enjoyed the food very much. If you like Japanese food, I would highly recommend that you give the Mount Fuji Japanese restaurant a try. I don't think that you will find yourself disappointed...
Read moreI am having trouble with this review. I have gone to Mt. Fuji for over 8 years now. It has always by far had the best sushi in Arkansas in my opinion. The food had always been incredibly delicious. Why 2 stars then? Their standards have clearly dropped off of a cliff in these "Pandemic" times. The staff seems to have changed significantly leading to much longer wait times.
For a pickup order with two of their common sushi rolls, an entree, and an appetizer my wait time was estimated to be an hour. I ordered at 11:20 AM to beat some lunch hour rush. When I arrived to pickup it wasn't ready. In total it took 1 HOUR AND 25 MINUTES!
Inside the restaurant at the time was three barely occupied tables. This traditionally would be considered a slow day but now somehow equals a high traffic time.
Throughout, the "Pandemic" times I ordered from here several times and every time has been SLOW, had MISSING ITEMS, and once resulted in the purchase of a mochi cake from their fridge that upon opening I discovered was MOLDY AND ROTTEN.
From 5 stars to merely 2 stars. I hope for better days at Mt. Fuji and a return to the well-renowned Japanese restaurant it was not...
