I am disappointed to share my experience, as I was initially hopeful about supporting a Black-owned business and expecting a positive visit. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations. The atmosphere did not align with the friendly environment portrayed on TIK TOK.

My mother ordered a burger, and upon inspection, we noticed it was not cooked well done. We informed a server, and after a few minutes, a staff member approached us. She explained that if we wanted the burger cooked to well-done, we should have specified this in advance, and suggested that such options might be added to the menu.

Despite this conversation, my mother had not received a replacement burger. When I inquired whether her burger would be remade, I was told it would not. I pointed out that it would be helpful to include such customization options on the menu because who expects an "undercooked" burger. She said they cooked them all medium well so that it won't come out dry. I explained to her thats fine but I never asked for a medium-well burger. The staff member then paused, stared for at least 40 seconds, and said she would ask the chef. However, she did not return. After waiting for over five minutes, the chef came out, thanked my mother for her the small token she gifted him. My mother nor I brought the issue up because it was obvious he was not coming to address the issue with the food (mind you the worker said she was going to talk to him and we had already been waiting for awhile.)

Ultimately, we chose to leave immediately after him thanking her and will not be returning. This experience was disappointing, especially for a $17 meal (mine was over 20) and it was concerning that the restaurant did not follow up to rectify the mistake. I was actually in the café when this occurred, and I feel compelled to speak up because Karen Mix’s review does not reflect what really happened.

First, the café closes at 2 PM, and Karen and her party arrived around 1:05 PM - 1:15 PM, not 2 PM. At that time, the staff was working hard to complete a number of orders already placed. I personally overheard the owner who was very professional explain MULTIPLE times that there would be a 45-minute wait due to the high volume of orders already placed. He was never rude. In fact, it was Karen who interrupted him while he was assisting another customer. The owner continued to let her know that he could make their orders, but they would just have to wait about 45 minutes which she did not want to.

It was clear the cafe staff was doing their best to accommodate everyone, but Karen seemed unwilling to listen and became dismissive before leaving. Others in line, understood the situation, and some still chose to wait and order to-go.

The café is beautifully decorated, the ambiance is warm and welcoming, great playlist, and the service is nice. Karen rated it a 1 out of 5. It’s amazing how nasty people can be when they don’t get their way.

If you scroll through the many genuine reviews, you’ll see a consistent pattern of good service, amazing food, and a kind, professional team. No place is perfect, but this café seems to work hard to get it right. Plus, they take customer feedback and try to improve where possible. I’ve seen it myself! I’m just a regular frequent (super frequent actually) customer, but I couldn’t stay silent while someone publicly misrepresented what really happened.
