I am from Chicago. I am not going to butter up this review. I just got to admit. This place is so Darn "Good!". I mean good. From the hand made to order pizzas made from well experience pizza makers. If you dont believe. Just go in on a busy night and watch how fast service is. Is super fast!!! I saw my pizza being made, fly into the air from start, then to adding ingredients is the best! I was amazed. Then I saw the espresso machine. I wanted a shot of good coffee!!!. But I had order local IP beer! I was amazed at the taste and great pour. Was here for a few days visiting family. On my second day our visit was to fulfill our taste buds for a double stack burger! OMG... the taste was awesome, really good. Atmosphere made my burger even taste great. I will not lie. After a few mins. Of talking my burger was still warm with mouth watering flavors. I will always eat here. Since I saw the pride and real Joy that every employee puts into great service. To top our end of night. We tasted their italian scoops of real good ice cream. Please try it. Is super good. Night was not over. Family met the owner... wow! A super nice and down to earth. Wait... he was working on orders!!! Yep. Who does that. In other words. He takes real pride and shows of Montana true spirit. Made our night. We had pizza made to order. Beer. Second day. Two double burgers!! With great atmosphere and great five star service. See yah in July. That is a promise...the picture is of a Double patty chesee burger with fries and lets not forget dill pickle. Thank you Mr. Chris.

Local establishment with delicious food. We'd driven from Helena and were ready to eat. We shared a Gil's Burger that was a SO good. I loved the fried onions and swiss. It is a combination of burger and brisket! It came with a small side of homemade french fries. We shared a bowl (HUGE!) of the Tomato Basil soup. Nice and thick.. and with beautiful presentation - like barista would do to a latte. The Gil's Greens was also in a large bowl. We were plenty full when we left to finish our trip to Billings. But.. we did take a Almond Joy Cookie and a small mixed fruit shortcake to share later. We noticed a lot of homemade pizza being eaten and also being picked up to take home. Next time we may try that .. or call ahead to pick it up as we go thru Livingston.. Gils is only about 1 mile off the freeway and easy to get to. One more thing. There are two sections. You can go in the bar area and they will wait on you at your table. The bar had live music playing (on a Monday night).. and was pretty busy. All the tables in the bar area were high tops and the chairs didn't have backs. So we sat in the take out area. They have lots of tables there, too. Normal height tables and chairs with backs. There you place your order at the counter and they bring it to you. Oh yeah, had the nightly beer special - a delicious light ale brewed right in Livingston. Gourmet food at a reasonable price in a casual Montana atmosphere!

We went in. Around 1pm on a Tuesday. All of the front room was full so we were sat in the bar area. The lighting is dim. The bathrooms are also very dark and cramped. Condom dispensers in the bathrooms and chalk messages drawn ALL OVER the bathroom walls. NOT family friendly. Our server walked past several times before stopping to take our drink order and give us menus. Then took a while to come back and take our meal order. The cold cut combo is ordered was pretty good, everyone else at the table seemed unimpressed. Pretty sure the foccacia is made in-house. Once we were done I had to call our a server over to get our check. Then took his time chit-chatting with other people ( staff and what looked like buddies at the bar, not his customers), while he had our card.

One and done. We had read and heard good things about Gil's. We walk in and sat down at a table waiting for someone to take our order. No one does so we head to the front and find out that you order there and they bring it to you after you've placed your order. One of the people in our party ordered a bowl of soup, bread to go with it, and a black coffee. She pays $8 and sits down. I order for my husband and I. We ordered a pizza and the steak and fries supposedly on a "mound of fries" for $36 plus tip which took it over $40+.

Soup comes...nicely presented in the bowl and hot. However, no bread and no coffee. She asks about the bread and coffee. Supposedly wasn't part of her order even though she had it repeated back to her at the register. She is brought an overfilled, dripping cup of coffee, but, at least it's hot. She asks about the bread. Server says she'll ask . Keep in mind that by the cash register, there were probably 6 loaves of bread to buy, and we could see a plate of biscuits in the cooking area. The server comes back and says she asked and "they are out of bread". Really? And, right after that I saw someone in the kitchen walk by with a bag of about 20 buns for sandwiches. Any of those items would have sufficed. Strange.

My husband's steak and fries did not come on a "mound of fries" as described on the menu. The fries barely covered a quarter of the plate. Steak very tough and we were not given a steak knife. We had to ask for that separately because our server didn't even think about it. My pizza was marginal with hardly any cheese, however it was hot. No one came back ever to check on us as to whether our meals were good, bad, or indifferent.

Very noisy in there as well from one of the servers dropping knives on us as she walked by, twice, to the cook in the kitchen pounding pizza dough, to the guy manning the pizza oven falling down, and the pushing of the bus your own dishes cart back and forth multiple times. We all felt stressed out by the time we left from there.

I am not one to complain normally, but, overall, a very poor experience. Paying over $40 for us to bus our own dishes, have no one truly "wait on you" to find out how your meals were and the cost leads me to feel very disappointed and dissatisfied, hence a 1...

I NEVER review anyone or anything ever. But honestly, I had an awful experience. Went to lunch with a friend. Paid for both of us, and sit down. Then the guy who FINALLY rang us up yelled "YOUR CARD WAS DECLINED". Mortified I walk over to see what happened knowing my card DEFINETLY wasn't declined. He rang my card two more times and I said hey, I have two charges now for 28 dollars. He kept trying and I almost walked away until it went through. He had me sign. I sit down and he yelled again "the card declined again." I was like dude I just signed it and you said it went through. And he goes "well the tip didn't go through." And I was like well idk what to tell you cause I just signed off on it. So a lady finally comes over and cancels it all to redo it. "I have like 9 people staring at me." So it went through AGAIN and she said "don't worry about the tip". I almost said I won't cause I want my money back. I wanted to leave so badly but my friend wanted to eat there so we did.. My friend and I get our food and I was shocked how little amount you get and the quality of food for a 14 dollar amount. I don't ever go out or splurge so this was a one time thing.. Jelly came in a super tiny paper cup. cup hash browns were soggy and cold. The only thing good was the sausage . The service was cold. We weren't greeted. Didn't know where to order or how to order. Honestly was the worst experience I've had here. And now I have two charges for 28 dollars. I want my money back and Gil's needs to hire nicer staff who don't make you dread walking in the doors. The guy who had me pay honestly seemed high or something because he was like "what?" A hundred times and could barely keep his eyes open. Sadly I do NOT...
