I did not grow up somewhere that taco trucks are the primary source of good Mexican food, but have had some experiences with them over the past and generally found the food to be dry. Tequileros does not suffer from this problem, and in fact the moisture level of the burrito I had was perfectly balanced.
This tells me two things: the food is fresh and not sitting in sauces or overly watered storage containers and that they aren't using sauces to cover anything up. I had an asada burrito and the meat tasted marinated and well cooked without being over cooked. The rice is light, fluffy, and flavorful as are the beans, and the onions, and the cilantro.
And that was something I really liked: there are distinct flavors you can taste without those flavors competing with one another. The tortilla also had a light chew with some crisp browning. It tears easily without being overly chewy.
My only disappointment was the heat level of the 'hot' salsa. Perhaps it is because I don't appear immediately Hispanic (but I most certainly am, I assure you) or perhaps they just don't have a hot sauce, but what I got was almost up to mild in my world. The flavor was excellent, it just wasn't 'hot' in any sense.
You can ask for more salsa, but if you want heat, make your grandma's recipe and have it ready when you pick your food up. And yes, I have a very spicy recipe for salsa from my grandma, and no, you can't have it.
Aside from the spice level, I thoroughly enjoyed the food and it is easily the best Mexican food in town for what it has. It's worth skipping the chips and salsa you get at a sit down place. Plus, two adults ate from here for $20. That's a...
Read moreI'm updating my review since the situation has finally been resolved.
TLDR: DON'T order online. DO order in person. If you do order online the manager won't return calls but will respond to a negative Google review with an unhelpful suggestion to do something you already tried.
Oh- and don't tip online because the staff won't receive it.
The food is great. We've been visiting regularly for several years and the taste and quality are consistently excellent.
The staff on the truck are helpful and quick.
The management's response to issues regarding the online payment systems could use some work. We experienced a glitch in the online ordering system through Google that resulted in a duplicate order being created. Google doesn't allow you to cancel an order through their system. While the staff on the truck caught the problem and didn't make the duplicate order, they told us to contact the manager and gave us her phone number. The manager ignored our messages for 3 days, so I wrote the original review, which prompted the response below which does not solve the issue since the online ordering platform doesn't do refunds.
In the end we ended up returning to the truck to see if we could resolve the issue with the manager in person and the staff on the truck ended up refunding the order.
A long long story to conclude that while the food is great, the customer service for issues is lacking. All of this could have been resolved with a few text messages or...

I really wanted to like this place. Lodi majorly lacks restaurant options, but what it doesn’t lack is good Mexican food.
The place is cute and trendy but seems to revolve more around the drink offerings which I have yet to try. The food simply does not impress. I ordered a shrimp bowl (which oddly, came on a tray like slop) and the shrimp were shrunken, black, and over cooked into oblivion. They had a jerky consistency. I couldn’t stomach them so I just ate the also not-so-great beans and rice. (Note: I order shrimp bowls from La Bomba food truck all the time and they’re amazing.)
My guy ordered a burrito without cheese. They brought out a burrito with cheese, so he kindly sent it back and then they brought him a burrito with JUST beans.
Again - looks like a fun place to drink, but maybe wait until you’re drunk to order the food because it’s not great. Especially comparatively to the abundance of Mexican food already...
