Awesome Sushi — Restaurant in Long Beach

Wish I could give this place zero stars… I went here tonight because it was recommended via TikTok. I came in , ordered an iced green tea ($4). When the waitress came to take our order, we asked for two awesome rolls. I mentioned that I have a shellfish allergy, as I do at every restaurant. This is the first time in my life going to a Japanese restaurant and being rejected for my allergy. She claimed they use the same knife and cutting board for all rolls, I asked if they could please use a separate cutting board and knife and she claimed they only wash the knives and cutting board once at the end of the night. I said okay, may I please order a “vegan” roll from your vegan menu , she flat out said no because they also use the same cutting board/knives for the fish rolls and vegan rolls. I told her that is not vegan, she said that no one has complained (probably because they have no idea). Feeling defeated, especially considering I drove 40 minutes for this “incredible sushi spot”, I asked if there was anything. Anything at all, I could order from the menu. She again flat out said no, that even the hot food is fried all in the same oil they use for the Shrimp tempura. I can understand that there is always risk for cross contamination, especially at a sushi restaurant. But this, false advertisement (vegan menu not being vegan), unsanitary conditions (only washing cutting boards and knives once at the end of the night) , and unhelpful service was truly disappointing. I highly recommend not going here if you are vegan, vegetarian, or allergic to anything at all… and maybe value sanitary conditions when it comes to...

Best Sushi EVER! They definitely live up to their name. There is no place better in California! I was in town and decided to see if thyetruly have "awesome sushi". Since that initial visit, I have driven 90 miles to come here on four separate occasions for their excellent service and mind-blowing sushi!

They have a wide variety of sushi and sashimi and plenty of vegitarian options too. I ordered the Caterpillar role topped with eel, which I only had tried once before at another location and didn't like - at Awesome Sushi, it's so good, it's now my favorite roll. I also tried their fresh daily seafood sushi such as the ocopus roll (I forgot the exact name) and they were all cooked perfectly, quickly, and then presented nicely on a plate with "Crunchies" on the side, which are yummy little bits of fried bread crumbs. They have a decent authentic drink menu, including some very interesting and flavorful wines.

If you crave good sushi and live anywhere in California (or visiting), this is the place to go. See my pics...

I rarely leave bad reviews but this place deserves it. I ordered a combo teriyaki chicken and spicy crab roll for take-out. First complaint was the price which came to $17.85. I paid it imagining how much food I was going to get for such a price, I was very hungry. I was told less than 10 minute wait yet sat there for at least 20. Finally received my food and the fabric shopping bag it was offered in. Before leaving the lot I got into the roll and to my astonishment it was only five pieces and looked more like half of a regular size roll anywhere else. What a rip. And no soy sauce.. anyway finished the roll before getting out of the parking lot and I will say it was ok just small. Teriyaki chicken was certainly under cooked a bit. Did not finish it. Also sauce was very salty and just not good. Rice was good. Salad consisted of iceberg lettuce and a solitary cherry tomato cut into quarters... I wouldn't pay $8 for the meal I receive for $18. Do not go here. Hoping I don't get sick from...
