Hiccups
Loved this place and especially loved the free drink upon Yelp check-in!
My friends and I decided to stop by here to try out their drinks because they had a wide variety to offer such as the chamoy mango and cookies and cream. While the mango was far too sweet and sour for my liking, I was disappointed at the fact that they did not have the cookies and cream base on my visit as I am not a local of Long Beach and would’ve loved to try it.
DRINKS Taro smoothie with boba add-on — $5.75 regular — overall very delicious, mixed well, but very sweet and you can not modify the sugar. I loved the fact that it was not chalky as most places somehow cannot mix the taro powder in their smoothie. I loved that it wasn’t too much ice and it was very smooth and easy to drink, but it was very sweet and I didn’t like that you couldn’t adjust how much sugar you had in the drink. Granted, if you’re being conscious of your sugar intake this is definitely not the drink for you.
Vietnamese coffee —$4.95 regular — cannot modify the amount of ice. Strong in taste, no foam in it like other boba shops have it but that’s nothing against Hiccups, and my boyfriend loved the taste. It’s less on the sweet side compared to other shops which is actually a preference for my boyfriend.
WAIT TIMES They had quoted us twenty minutes on a rather busy Sunday evening but the drinks came out around the ten minute mark.
FINAL THOUGHTS Overall, I loved the fact that they had appetizers and entrees here. A couple people had meals and I was definitely eyeing some of their dishes. It was a shame that we had gone to eat elsewhere as I would have tried this out if I had known they also served food here. I also didn’t like that they didn’t have a loyalty card but since I don’t live in the area I’m not really that disappointed.
Don’t forget to check in on Yelp to get a free beverage! They even use it on the most expensive drink on...
Read moreI drive by this place every day on the way to/from work but was never compelled to try it. First of all, weird name. Second of all, how good could the food be? Then I read some of the reviews, looked at some of the pics and had to satisfy a mad pad see ew craving so off I went for lunch one day. I was pleasantly surprised by the cute, modern decor and the high tech-y ness of their operation (tablet registers). Everyone working there looked to be under 25--definitely a popular place with the kids but even some older folks like me were there to get their work lunch on. I got their pad see ew with tofu and a taro milk tea with boba. I'd called it in ahead of time so it was ready to go right when I got there. Both items came in at over $15 so things ain't cheap here but the portions are very generous, so if you don't mind leftovers it's definitely good for two meals. The pad see ew was the bomb, btw--really great flavor and the noodles and tofu were cooked perfectly. The taro tea was really good too.
I enjoyed my first visit so much I went back the following week and got their fried mushroom appetizer, garlic noodles, and the golden milk tea. Alas I did not call it in ahead of time (because I wasn't sure what I wanted to get) and there was a bit of a wait for my food to come out. Let's just say I was almost done with my tea by the time the food came out. The lesson here is: call ahead if you can. The fried mushrooms were delicious, with a bit of a kick. The garlic noodles, alas, were a little on the bland side and I didn't like it as much as the pad see ew, but that's not to say I didn't eat all of it eventually. Overall I enjoyed my visits and they are now solidly in my...
Read moreSo I go here quite often, maybe like 2-3 times a week, and I usually get a milk tea on my way to work with no ice. There are 2 reasons why I get my drink with no ice. Reason 1) Because I drink it during lunch time and if I get it with ice, it waters down. 2) They put like 85% ice sometimes and the other 15% is liquid so you're basically paying for a cup of ice. One day, I got my usual milk tea with no ice and it was only filled up 3/4 of the way. Usually they fill it up all the way but this guy, not sure if he was the manager or just an employee but he acted like the damn owner, took it personal when I asked him if he could top it off because they always usually do and he starts crying about how it's policy to fill the cup only 3/4 of the way when people order their drinks with no ice and he goes on repeating it like a broken record also telling me that next time I should know better and that he's been working there since childbirth so he knows and blah blah. That is very bad customer service on his behalf. Why act that way towards a customer over half an ounce but yet sometimes your drinks are mainly ice? Makes it seem like they're intentionally trying to rip people off! Not to mention that out of all the Hiccups I go to, including this one, he's the only person that does that! This guy needs a...
