Hole Mole — Restaurant in Long Beach

My friend brought me to Holé Molé and described it as "Rubio's but better, also the food actually tastes good" which for me is not setting the bar particularly high because everytime I have eaten Rubio's, my stomach hurts and I regret it immediately, but I digress.

I am happy to say that I had a rather favorable experience here. I ordered two crispy carnitas tacos and an Al Pastor taco on a flour tortilla. I wish I took a photo because it was all over the place when I got it. Most of the guacamole had fallen off but it was still good and it came with chips which I didn't expect but welcomed. Also the carnitas tacos were delicious although they weren't very big, I enjoyed them. I didn't even order that much food and still felt satisfied and I felt like the prices were actually pretty low than most other places. All of that for only 9$.

I want to give a shout out to Heaven, she was working the register when I came in. There was a mistake with my order and I accidentally ordered something by accident but she was really understanding in helping me correct it and giving me some money back. My First impression walking up to the door was that this business has been here for a decade or more and not maintained. Once inside that feeling is repeated. At first it wasn't clear if it was purposely set up to be dilapitated or was just neglected. After placing a small togo order we almost sat at a table to wait. But the tables looked very old and felt dirty. Looking around there is a rusted metal wall and features that look like broken shelves and fixtures. I think these things were on purpose. But I could quickly see the the front door was dirty with hand smuges. Very dirty. There was a glass front beverage cooler that was equally dirty. Fithy floor, walls, excetra. The cashier didn't seem to care if we were there. She said it would be just a second. She walked away and someone else took our order. The food was almost average. Watery beans with little flavor. I got the baja shrimp burittto. The couple of shrimp in the burrito were good. But most of it just tasted like a bland rice and bean burrito. If it seemed cleaner I would try another dish. I was so hyped up about coming here! As there is great reviews but unfortunately I was pretty disappointed. Had lunch with my birthday man and he was also disappointed. The potato tacos I’ll give four stars however the bowl with beans,rice, cheese and carne asada was not what we expected to be. Dry meat beans were tasteless as well as the rice. It was taco Tuesday and had shrimp tacos that were flavorless😞. Perhaps it wasn’t a good day for chef. I’m not sure if they make food there or if it’s prepackaged. I wanted to order chicken mole., was skeptical I’m doing so and that lady that took my order gave me a little sample of their mole., I’m glad she did! Wasn’t Impressedwith the Molé but to each is own right.? That’s why I didn’t get their chicken mole. I liked the horchata.
