We came here after the Annual Granada 4th of July parade.
We been here before and never had such horrible service and will not return again.
Reason for the two star review and not a one star - We came in a group of 4 people, a toddler, and an infant. The manager moved us to a less cramped table (very much appreciated).
Our waitress in this new area was named Maddison (was on the receipt - in case it may be the wrong person she had bright red hair with black roots pulled back in a bun) she gave me a coffee that had a gnat in it and when I told her there was a bug in my coffee she goes "Sorry." She looks at my spoon (had the bug in it) and goes "That is just a coffee grind, but ill get you a new coffee" and shakes her head and walks off. Now there is a clear difference between a coffee grind and a gnat ("the coffee grind" CLEARLY had wings!). I don't know about you but do you want some coffee with your bugs? LIKE no. A simple sorry and kept it going would have been fine.
Also, there was no need for an apology when the next remark was rude and insulting (everyone at the table confirmed it was a bug). I understand it is the 4th of July and working on a Holiday sucks, but there is no need to make people feel uncomfortable.
The food was good. But this experience will not make me want...
Read moreFood and service are always wonderful. If you ever leave The Potholder hungry, it's your own darn fault! Pancakes are huge, brunch cocktails are delish and the Super Spuds...holy moly mouthwatering. I could go on and on about the good things. After all I didn't give them 4 stars for nothing ;)
My only beef is their take on the "straw ban". They are now only offering reusable straws. I understand being passionate about change and salute them for doing what they feel is right.... However, why not offer paper straws or continue plastic at request, then recycle them? Unless they are eliminating all plastics and other ocean toxins they are using, this is a trivial statement. I think they believe this change makes them look good in the public eye. But really it just affects their customers' safety. I highly doubt the straws are being properly sterilized between uses. Please stop and think about the saliva and bacteria that gets gunked in a straw. Now think about sucking down a drink through that straw right after a stranger! Bottomline, offering reusable straws in a restaurant is absolutely disgusting and completely unsanitary. There has to be a better...
Read moreI arrived at about 11:15 am on Presidents day and there was about 7 couples outside waiting to be seated. I was already prepared to wait for a bit so this was not a surprise.
I walked around the restaurant before I was seated and checked out the three different room that they had for dining. It was interesting to see how the different rooms where decorated and you can see how they expanded the restaurant over the years.
There are pictures of people standing at places all over the world holding "Eat at the Potholder" signs which was pretty cool. I even saw one on a jet of some kind. They hook you up with a free breakfast if you bring in your picture taken in a different part of the world so that is pretty fun.
The only parking that I was able to find was on the street and this is a very crowded area of Long Beach. Luckily I had a small car and we were able to find a spot up the first street and about 10 cars down which equated to a short 3 minute walk.
I had the Ortega Chili Scramble and my wife had the Eggs Benedict. Both dishes where awesome and totally...
