It's so easy to miss this little dander down into downtown Longview! I know...so many BBQ pits...so little time! But don't miss this gem of a brewery! Right on the corner, you'll wander into the friendliest little taproom in Texas. While there is no food on the premises, there's cheese plates and plenty of places to order from either from delivery or the main street!
But you're here for the beer...and that's the delicious part of the deal! Prop yourself up in the window at one of the reclaimed wood tables and watch the world go by with a wee flight of crafty east Texas goodness. All will come in one of the wee 4oz baby pour glasses! You get a good deal here - not only great beer but a little history too - ask about Ossamus - the founder of Longview and indeed, a cheeky and very supremely drinkable Saison. Or for those of you who bend to a slightly more ABV, jump into the Moon Pool - a Belgian Quad that really is divine with a wee hint of banana back that...
The usual brewery vibe awaits...live music, board games, dog friendly and lots of happy folk ready for banter in a cool and hip atmosphere. Do not miss a visit to the ladies bathroom (gents...up to you how daring you feel...:-) and find the rightful place for an Anheuser Busch barrel! Tag your own local hangout on their sticker wall and get your own Oil Horse sticker to take back to your home brewery!
Take your BBQ to go and head off into the Longview bright lights at Oil Horse! You'll...
Read moreI was very excited to visit... the bartender was very friendly. But as I sat down w my two dogs, a large binder of paperwork to review and my beer, I found out my first friend in life at 3 and best friend of 43 years had died. The music was loud, there were several people outside and a dog and a man riding his bike in circles repeatedly in front of the door. So I sat on the metal stairs at the door, hands full, reading about my friend and trying to listen to the phone. And a man walks up and sat TWO stair steps behind me talking on his phone. He could have gone up a few steps??? I asked, "can you please give me a little space, I just found out my best friend died and I'm trying to deal with that" (and his talking and closeness was a lot.) And this man says, "No... I own this place and I don't have to move, sorry about your friend" And then told the person on the phone that nah someone just wanted him to move .... I MEAN WHAT OWNER ACTUALLY SAYS SOMETHING LIKE THAT TO A PATRON IN CRISIS??? I dont know of he owns the building or the bar. This owner has no tact and and is by no means anyone I would ever give my business to again. I can't fathom...
Read moreOut of towners, be sure to stop and sample these beers. Visiting Longview for the first time we loved the experience and live music. They will provide a very good explanation of the beers before you order. We enjoyed the Osammus, Loblolly, 1877 and Big Inch. We were surprised to like the Big Inch since it was a dark beer, but try it if you like coffee as you will discover those flavors.
There is no food except the popcorn which they make fresh. If they had some bar appetizers we would have definitely sampled them but understand that they want to focus on their craft. We will be sure to stop in if we ever make it back...
