I have been coming down this way for a couple of dozen years and I have never even thought about stopping in this part of town. I am so quick to visit my parents in the more rural part of Loris and then high tail it to the beach, that I forget to slow down the pace and take in some of the more nostalgic parts of the area. I have frequented downtown when I was young and I have shopped at Food Lion on a number of occasions, but somehow, I passed Shorty's. This won't happen again. The area is something out of downtown USA. I would not have been surprised if Andy Griffith and Barney Fife saddled up beside me at the counter. This was, in every way, my idea of the perfect breakfast. I sat at the counter and was greeted by the cook and order taker all rolled into one. I had the 2 pancake meal with side of meat (country ham-the thick salty kind!), added a side of soft cooked bacon, eggs scrambled hard, orange juice, coffee. This breakfast was all kinds of yummy. Coffee brewed perfectly, bacon cooked soft, syrup flowing for days, fluffy pancakes, fresh eggs! How in the world I never found this place in my 50 something years coming to Loris. I now can just pop out of bed, drive down SC-410 E/SC-9 Business and get me some real true blue diner food deliciousness. Everyone working in here was super nice and treated me like family. You can tell when people really enjoy coming into work. The team was just clicking on all cylinders. Take out orders were doing a brisk business. The counter service was hopping. Delivery was on point. Just a well oiled machine all around. If anyone can tell me how I can get my hands on one of them Shorty's t-shirts I'd be...
Read moreIâm going to toe the line on this one because this place is a local hero in Loris. We moved here in 2020 and decided to try some of the local places and Shortys was the first.
Itâs a typical small town diner. Prices werenât crazy. We ordered the fried pickles as a starter, when they arrived it was just a mess of batter and pickles. The batter would actually just fall right off the pickle and they were soaked in grease. I get it, theyâre deep fried but there still shouldnât be a pool of grease in the bottom of the dish. We also ordered fresh cut fries, it was more of the same, just a soggy greasy mess. We ordered burgers and hotdogs with fries for our meal. They were ok, nothing special.
We went back for breakfast a second time and it wasnât terrible but itâs very basic. Taste exactly like what you can make at home. Exactly like it. No flare, nothing special.
They allow smoking in the back room so if you set back by the machines, youâll leave smelling like cigarettes.
All in all this place wasnât for us but thatâs just us. When we go out to eat we want something special that we canât get at home and this wasnât it for us. This restaurant thrives off of the small town vibe and thatâs...
Read moreI hate leaving a bad review... Especially when it's a local place I used to love... I still love the hot dogs and potato salad, but the fries come out limp and full of grease that tastes old. Not appetizing at all. However, that wasn't the problem for me. The owner (guy) was working the grill and he was completely rude and had a horrible attitude with his grill line. This guy needs a job that's not under pressure because he clearly loses it and takes it out on his employees. This wasn't a surprise for me as I had called a few weeks prior to see what time they closed. I got answered by the same guy who got an attitude and told me unless you got employees that will work we will close at 3. I just hung up thinking maybe he had a bad day. Nope. That's how he talks to everyone. That's the reason he can't find and keep employees, no one is going to put up with that attitude and mouth. As much as I love the food, and the other owner (lady must be his wife) I can't support the business while they treat their...
