Since 'Comfort Food' restaurants are a dying breed, I always try to stop at one to do my part! So I go in and sit at the bar and pretty quick the female barkeep is there. Oh, and no employees have nor wear any name tags! Anyway, I ask for the most popular dish and the gal rattles off about four! And I say, "What's the most popular!? She says the fried chicken, so I take it and she walks away! No choice of rice or potato or Mac and cheese and no choice of veggies, nor did she tell me if I get a salad! Which I always expect at a comfort food delegation. But hey, I asked for the most popular, and I guess that's what she's gonna give me! But get this --- in probably less than five (5) minutes, another name tag-less employee brings me my meal! This can't be good! And lo and behold, it was THE WORST Chicken Dinner in my life! ๐ซ The only good thing was the Country Gravy! The chicken display looked like fish fillets --- no bones in my ๐ dinner tonight! ๐ฏ No dinner rolls either! After asking Jen, her name, I also asked if some kind of bread came with the selection? "No you got country gravy," she said! "But if you want toast or a biscuit I can get you one but it doesn't come with it!" I passed! The chic fillets were big and counted five in number . . . Wow! But they had absolutely NO FLAVOR! I ate one and a half and that is when I ran out of the gravy that gave it a smush of taste! But I didn't want more because nothing was piping hot! I guess they serve a lumpy style of mashed potatoes and that would be a good thing if they had some buttery flavor and/or some seasoning . . . they were derelict in both! YUK! For the taste of the veggies: see below ๐๐ฝ: But as I looked around, the place was packed, so what was up!? The lady sitting next to me asked Jen for a to-go box! My fellow bar patron said, "Just a small one because I am only taking the steak!" What was left on her plate when she left? The mashed potatoes and the fajita-style aray of veggies! But she did say, "I'll see you next time!" Maybe I shoulda had the steak! The menu was newspaper-style and mine was wet! Yikes! But the TVs and the ambiance was poppin' but the meal I attempted to eat had me stoppin'! I may go back to give them another chance . . . but it looks like they are doing fine without me --- which is quite bafflingly, I...
ย ย ย Read moreWe went there with high hopes, but noticed that there were issues. My friend ordered a beer , and he is a cicerone, and knows a great deal about how beer should taste. He said the beer was flat, and when he brought it to the bartenders attention, she dismissed him at first. Then she told the manager and he stated that beer was fine. My friend insisted that he knows what the beer should taste like, and it was flat. Then the manager admitted they had been having issues with the machine, and he thought it had been fixed. He comped the beer.
I ordered a veggie burger, and was very unimpressed. I think they took the lazy way out and just served a Griller- at least that is what it tasted like. Ive been a vegetarian for many years, and I know veggie meat! Hint- there is a really good burger made by Morning Star. The Spicy Black Bean burger would be a much better choice for you to serve than a Griller. It would fit into your goal of serving gourmet comfort food much better than a Griller would, if you want to achieve the GOURMET status you seek!!
The fries were very soggy- not thoroughly cooked, and not crispy as we anticipated. Since you get all you want, we ordered some to go, and that batch was cooked to perfection.
We went again to try the breakfast food. The meat on one meal was not thoroughly cooked- some of it was raw. Yuck! I ordered the avocado toast this time, and was very pleased with the meal, and there were plenty of the potatoes to share with others. My daughter ordered the chocolate chip pancakes, which she was pleased to see that they were filled with cc's and had some sprinkled on top. She was very happy until she turned it over and discovered the pancakes were not cooked all the way through. The next batch she got did not have any cc's in the pancakes- just sprinkled on top, and the order was much smaller than the first order delivered.
I hope that these issues are just because they are new, and will be worked out over time. We were comped for all the mistakes made, so didn't have to pay for it. But it would be better if they could just serve the right food the first time, cook the food thoroughly, and make sure the beer...
ย ย ย Read moreOur second time here. We went during lunch. The place is so popular so there is a waiting list of 20 minutes. We invited two of our friends and it is their first time. I made our reservations via Yelp and unfortunately my name was automatically taken out of the waitlist. I had to go back to the host to let her know. She put my name in again so we waited the second time. Again I got a notification that my name was taken out of the list. I went back to the host; she spoke to her manager who spoke to me that she will take care of our reservation. Thanks to her we got our table she personally arranged the tables herself. Great service from this wonderful manager! We proceeded with our orders including a dog dinner of beef and vegetables for small puppy. When the orders arrived, my dog's dinner order of beef & vegetables where so small only had small portions of beef, a few slices of carrots and some small broccoli pls see the picture of my dog's dinner served in a togo box; maybe the run out of dog plates. My wife ordered Ceasar's Chicken salad (her usual) she noticed that there were less chicken not much lettuce and cheese, she was not happy about it. My wife's friend order Chicken & Waffles but the Chicken was over fried and the chicken inside was so dry. My freind ordered a 10 oz steak medium well and it came in well done. I was so ashamed I asked them if they want their orders redone but they declined. I tried ordering the Tuna Melt with avocados. I hate to say that the it tasted rotten and the fries were not cooked and soggy. I just pretended to like it as I was already ashamed of what has occurred with our friends orders. I paid $153 total plus a $20 tip. I feel that this second time was not as good as our first visit. Maybe because they were busy with all their overflowing customers? And their kitchen could not catch up? I don't think that quality...
