Wahoo - one of the world's fastest swimming fish
Wahoo's Fish Taco - one great place for lunch
$10 food voucher, courtesy of Valley View Casino
I've only been to Wahoo's Fish Taco once previously, that being the Huntington Beach location for Taco Tuesday over a decade ago. With food voucher in hand, I stopped by the Los Alamitos location for a quick bite.
The salsa bar was well equipped, and kept clean & neat.
Cajun wahoo salad- In the mood for something light, I decided upon the wahoo salad. I was asked if I wanted it blackened or Cajun, and I went with Cajun. I was then asked which dressing, and I chose cilantro. The wahoo filets were generous, with a hint of heat. A tad overcooked, for my liking. The guacamole was creamy & delicious, with the rest of the salad filling & pleasing to the palate.
I noticed Wahoo's has several Happy Hour specials, both for food & alcoholic drinks at the bar.
Service was good. The cashier was friendly and made some helpful recommendations for me. Ample seating inside the restaurant and outside at the spacious patio.
Parking is via a private lot.
$10 food voucher well spent! Wahoo's Fish Taco didn't disappoint. The restaurant has a lot to offer, whether it be alcoholic beverages, lighter fare, or the more calorie-laden menu items. I think my next visit will be for Happy Hour, to take advantage of the various specials. All in all, Wahoo's Fish Taco is legit.

Read moreHaving grown-up in the area, and now coming back to visit each year, this place was new to me a few years ago, and I’ve driven by many times, but had never stopped. Today I stopped and I’m so glad I did.
An amazing, fresh menu, and it smelled so good walking in the door. I originally went to check out the fish tacos, but decided to save those for a day. I was more hungry. So this time around, I tried the chicken tortilla soup with fresh avocado, and also the homemade chips and guacamole.
First off, these chips are incredible. As good as any restaurant chips I’ve had, hot, thin, crispy, and I had to ask what it was but they use Mexican Tajin seasoning, which gives you a great bit of spice and a little bit of sour from the dehydrated lime. Really very good in their own right. However, add to it the homemade, chunky, fresh guacamole, an absolute 10 in such a simple side staple.
The chicken tortilla soup is very tasty, pretty amazing flavors, with very tender, flavorful, chicken chunks, and lots of crispy tortilla strips on top. Adding the fresh avocado to it, really made it a great bowl of soup.
Can’t wait to go back and try the fish tacos and what looks like amazing enchiladas on the menu. And prices were...
Read moreTwenty seven years ago, I found myself in The OC. A land of franchises and bland homogeny. During that long stint I had come to develope a strong fondness for Wahoo's. The epitome of Baja fare but served up as a fast food joint while still offering a sensibly priced beer of the day. Their homemade salsa roja was always flavorful, balanced yet spiced just right. Fish or shrimp tacos always on deck, as much a go-to as their sweeter Maui bowl or Kahlua bowl. Taquitos as a snack or fries from those locations that carried them. All together, the qualities of Wahoo's became a litmus test of greatness. I was fortunate to have them so close by that now I find any reason to revisit and enjoy anew. Little else has changed as one does when flirting with perfection. And so about once a month or so, my coastal drives pause for praise and the purchase of something yummy for my tummy. Do get their cilantro pepita green salsa and enjoy a cool burn atop just about everything else. Skip the lines and order ahead if you can. Don't skimp on anything.
While there are now locations in the South Bay of Los Angeles, those locales of South OC will always remain...
