I WILL NOT be coming back. Today, a customer, namely a white female customer, came in extremely frustrated that her door dash order was incorrect. They forgot butter, the drink was cold, etc etc and she drove all the way down with an injury to voice her complaints in person (and made it a big point that she had been crying and was so overwhelmed by a food order being not what she hoped) I was about two people down the line from this interaction, and while I stood at the register the staff did not acknowledge my presence, ask me to wait, or even ask for my patience as they address this grown woman
And yes, I am a black woman, and the staff completely ignored me until I had to ask if I could order. Then , it took way too long to get a simple iced tea, and I had to say they could cancel it if it wasn’t ready.
Meanwhile the staff carried the white woman’s bags to her car and gave her a refund, and begged her forgiveness for the forgotten butter and syrup. I could barely be helped.
I will not be coming back, and felt very second class. I only got a pastry and an iced tea, and that does not take 30 minutes. I’m disappointed because I have made special trips to this location and have recommended it to GF friends. I hope the staff can learn to treat all customers with the same amount of care...
Read moreAmara’s is a cozy cafe, hidden on a side street in Highland Park. After the line finally started moving inside, the first thing that struck my was the simple yet clever decor of dried flowers and fruit hanging from the ceiling and draping the wall. It creates a nice warm ambiance.
I had a hard time deciding between the Purple Eggs and the Green Eggs. They both looked delicious by the description. I went with Green Eggs on a whim, and was pleasantly surprised with the contrast between the Eggs and the purple cabbage (yes the Green Eggs also had purple cabbage), and avocado. How often do you get purple cabbage for breakfast!?
Lastly, the baked goods were absolutely amazing. I also had hard choice, good thing other in my party were down to split a few. I don’t know what they called it, there was this cookie with chocolate on top, and a scone, both vegan. I’m not vegan, but these were G-O-O-D!!!
My only complaint is that we had to fight for tables at the prime hour for Saturday morning, but isn’t that the case for any immensely popular order first then find...
Read moreI bookmarked this restaurant when looking for paleo options in LA and today after a doctors appointment I realized it was too near not to try it out.
I ordered the paleo pancakes and my mother tried the parfait with granola. The food was delicious! But what made Amara a place I’ll go out of my way to try again was their phenomenal service and kindness.
Because it was our first time here and we weren’t sure if we needed to place orders online because of COVID, we definitely were confused customers. But they were very patient with us and offered to take our order over the register to make it easier.
I live in Glendora but would definitely go there again because the staff was just really really nice.
I wish I had pictures of the food, SUPER YUMMY. Especially the maple butter accompanied with my paleo pancakes. It was so good I had to double check to make sure it was dairy free!
