Great diner (once again, thanks to my fellow Yelpers!). Had to drive out to the SGV and needed a breakfast spot, found Armon's on Yelp and went for it. Easy to find, not far off the freeway, parking was easy to find. Inside, it's like walking into a time warp back to the 1950s (I don't think they have updated much in there since then!) but I was there to eat, not admire the architecture.
Got a spot at the counter, was given a big, heavy mug of mediocre coffee, and I knew I was in for a good diner breakfast. Ordered the chicken fried steak, and it came out slathered in a mildly greenish gravy (not the typical white sausage gravy). Despite the color, the gravy was tasty and the chicken fried steak hit the spot. Not the best I've ever had (nor even the best in LA, probably would tip Pann's for that honor). Nice heaping side of crispy hash browns on the side.
Okay, now the highlight of the whole meal (which tipped this to a 4-star) ... their home made salsa. Watch out, this stuff is hot ... doesn't start out that way, but about 60 seconds after ingesting it, you'll know! But the taste was fabulous! On the steak, on the potatoes, on the fried egg, heck probably would have made the coffee taste better. I wish I could have bought a bottle to take home!
Thank goodness we still have little hole in the wall spots like this, it's a piece...
Read moreI initially gave five stars but during my last visit I was told to “shut up” by the server named May. I don’t even recall why she spoke to me rudely. My voice wasn’t raised or loud. I’m super disappointed. The server Pat asked me if I was okay and she seemed shocked when I told her that May told me that. Maybe it was because I questioned why my Thai Iced coffee looked so small when I asked for it to be served sans ice. I was told that it is a 12oz serving which is pretty small considering the price is like $6.99
I wanted to deduct more stars but the other servers are good and show respect. The May also told me to turn down my phone which wasn’t loud, and nowhere near as loud as some of the other patrons that were carrying on loudly but May did d not ask them to keep it down. My phone was at a conversational level.
I love Pat and Cathy and the gentleman server. Those ladies always greet me and make me feel welcome. The gentleman Kim is rude like the server May. Not a little but a LOT rude. May has a nasty and disgusting habit of cleaning her nose as she exits the kitchen. She either is using a napkin or more often than not she just rams her finger in there. She does not wash her hands. If it weren’t for May and Kim this place would be perfect. And...
Read moreEasily one of the best diners in Eagle Rock. That is saying something because there are over five well-known ones that I can think of and I’m sure there are a few more that I can’t. Every time I stop in it’s always very busy, but the wait is never that long. We were able to be seated immediately when we arrived for our 10 AM Sunday brunch. They have a lot of seating indoors as well as out, but I always prefer to sit inside to really soak up the diner atmosphere. This is an Asian-influenced diner that has a lot of Asian flavors on the menu as well as a mostly Asian staff. They don’t have a dedicated parking lot, but parking is very easy to find in this part of town. Our server was very polite and everything we ordered came out extremely fast.
I wanted to mix up my usual order so for my last visit so I chose the Hamburger Steak and Eggs. It’s basically a large hamburger patty but cooked just like a steak and honestly, it was delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the side of hashbrowns was as good as I hoped. The portion sizes are large and the prices are fair so it really is a great breakfast or lunch option. I would recommend to any diner fan or anyone searching for a great breakfast option...
