Going to preface this review by saying yes, we knew it was a 2 star hotel prior to booking. HOWEVER, people who are on a budget deserve at least a clean place to stay with safety features and some level of ammenity. We only read a few decent reviews of this place and found it to be worth checking out. We were so wrong!!
Welcome Inn has zero level of accountability in taking care of its guests. Our room's smoke detector had been pulled off the wall for whatever reason. Pretty sure that violates some kind of safety code and there are families with small children that stay here. The TV remote was nowhere to be found and upon asking the front desk about it, we were told an entire block of rooms that included ours had non working tv's. That's fine, however upon further reading of these reviews, it turns out a few guests from THREE YEARS AGO were also without remotes and working tv (??) Why even have tv's in the rooms if they don't work? Just so they can advertise HAVING them?? What a disaster.
There was a spacious closet with a dresser in it, but overall the room's cleanliness was suspicious. The exhaust fan in the bathroom along with the bathroom door was covered in layers of dust. Shower curtain was dingy and there was a mildew stain in the corner of the bathtub. The water here doesn't get hot, it was warm at best. Our top bedsheets were seemingly clean however the bottom sheets that covered the boxsprings of the mattresses appeared to have dark stains all over them. SO GROSS.
The mini fridge and microwave sat unplugged in a dusty cabinet that was not even remotely close to the electrical outlet on the wall. One would have to push the cabinet farther to reach the outlet, however since there were no wheels on the bottom of the cabinet and there is carpet on the floors, it would not be easy nor convenient to move. Speaking of carpet, it's about a thousand years old and carried a chemical odor that was very unsettling. Lastly, our keys at one point both lost their ability to unlock the door and had to be reactivated. Only one of them worked after that. Seriously WHAT?
I hate to say this but all of the oversights seem to be the result of lazy and uncaring ownership. For the location itself, it's priced decent. However, just because a hotel isn't "luxury" doesn't mean its guests aren't deserving of a decent experience. Staff was nice enough but have obviously been coached on what to say to guests who inquire about things that don't work in the rooms. The owner needs to step it up majorly or sell the property to someone who actually cares...
Read moreI want to acknowledge and thank the other reviewers, because they helped me manage my expectations. I had procrastinated making a reservation and the Glendale motels I had thought about were full. The view of the hills is wonderful. The outside is very well done, with lots of pretty but water wise flowers.||As others have said, the room was on the small side. It seems to be a family run business that is not part of a chain. It seems that they are in the process of fixing it up in stages. There was beautiful tile on both the walls and floor of the bathroom, but the bathroom, but the paint on the door was a little cracked and peeling. This did not bother me., A chain would usually have linoleum and wallpaper rather than tile and the repainted cheaply. Do, both nicer and not as nice.||The room was freshly painted, the paint coordinated with a new bed spread and matching drapes with newish carpet. The furniture in the room I had included 3 chairs and a recliner. On the other hand, no chest of drawers, and the some of the furniture was chipped I imagine that they are in the process of replacing this, so I look forward to other stays and to see how this progresses .||No coffee pot, but there was a refridgerator. There is a flat screen TV.The sign out from advertises ESPN and HBO, but non premium cable channels.||If they upped the amenities all at once, and fixed everything at once, they would have to charge much more, so for me the trade-off is well worth it, especially considering range of eateries and cultural opportunities in a 10 radius (including Occidental College), and the great view. Probably not for those who need more amenities, or for those for whom less-than-perfect furniture would be really offensive.||As others have said, everything was very, very clean. They don't use agencies like Booking or Hotels.com, but I was charged exactly exactly what was advertised on their website'--no hidden charges.||When I want to stay in Eagle Rock, I would definitely consider staying...
