This restaurant is such a gem! I absolutely enjoyed my experience. One of the owners, Sham, was there and he was so very kind and attentive to each customer.
The food will speak for itself! The portion sizes were very generous. My absolute favorite was the paneer makhani. I loved the richness of the sauce. It had just the slightest hint of sweetness and was spiced so well. The mango curry with chicken was also very smooth and had the distinct sweetness of a mango with bright sauce. Both of these entrees paired very well with their garlic naan. Their garlic naan was great because the texture was perfect and I could taste the crispy garlic bits peppered throughout the naan through the flavors of each curry.
Pro tips: ALL of their entrees come with a side of rice which is such a rare find. And look how fluffy the rice is! They also have a large selection of vegetarian and vegan options.
Overall, I would highly recommend this place. You don't want to miss it. There is traditional music playing lightly inside. The interior of the restaurant is very clean and the booths are spaced well so it doesn't feel cramped at all. And of course, you must go for the sake of your taste buds!
NOTE: When I mapped to this place from Google Maps, the app automatically directed me to 6322 NORTH Van Nuys Blvd, San Fernando Valley, CA 91401. Their address actually IS NOT on NORTH Van Nuys Blvd. It is JUST 6322 Van Nuys Blvd, San Fernando Valley, CA 91401. (The two addresses are only 1 mile apart, but definitely something to note especially if you...
Read moreLove this little place. You can tell, the owner takes great pride in his little restaurant. (It’s a tough business!) He is incredibly friendly and hospitable, one of the nicest owner/chefs I’ve ever met & I’ve been to hundreds of Indian restaurants, all over the world. Assam is a little ‘hole in the wall’ kitchen that looks like it could be for takeout only, but not true! The owner always comes out to meet & greet customers, a sadly dying custom. It is open late, until midnight, for theatre or concert goers, etc, which is a rare occurrence, as all surrounding restaurants are long closed. We were very grateful to find this place because we often eat late. And, after enjoying much East End London Indian Food, it’s tough to find anything close! This food comes very close! We order almost everything medium spicy, primarily shrimp & white meat chicken dishes. The owner/chef is always willing to accommodate, even if the dish isn’t typically made with such. And, he will suggest alternate dishes, if requested. The Biryanis are very tasty, as are the Chana Saag, Tikka Masala & Vindaloo or Madras (if you like spicy!). I prefer tomato based sauces, so we haven’t tried any cream based. Lastly, Mango Chutney & Garlic Naan (or any) are ‘must have’...
Read moreHands down, the best Indian food restaurant I've been to. Ever! Not only that, but one of my absolute favorite spots in general. The owner is so very kind, more than willing to fix mistakes (which has never happened to me anyways). It's not speedy service, its GOOD service! We're too used to fast food and convenience, but they cook from the heart here and that kind of art may take a moment. Very much worth it. Prices are very good in person at least. Not typically super busy so its also a very calm environment. I seriously could not recommend this place more. The chicken tikka masala and garlic cheese naan are my go-to, never gets old and was my biggest craving back when I was pregnant. It’s still my biggest craving and was even before pregnancy! I absolutely love it here. Don’t come in ready to judge, come in ready to be pleasantly surprised. Gulab Jamun and Mango Lassi are also huge favorites of mine if you’ve got a sweet tooth. If you need anything explained he is very friendly and more than happy to...
