This spot caught our eye. We stopped in with quite an appetite. This place looks like a takeout spot, but they have a nice small dining room. You order at the counter and they call you when ready
We started with some Pita and the Garlic Shallot Yogurt dip. It was good. Note, the Persian Iced tea is good but very sweetened.
I ordered the Shish Kabob and the Chicken Kabob. Both were tender and delicious. The saffron rice served made a perfect complement.
My wife had the Chicken Koobedeh and the Shish Kabob. Both plates came with a small lentil soup. They also give you a choice of small dips, such as hummus, to go with the pita bread.
The best item was the chicken kabob. It was very moist and flavorful. All the other skewers were good but not as good as the chicken.
The portions were generous; we took half of each plate home! Definitely filled out appetite. Lastly, I couldn't resist the homemade bakklava.
Next time I'm back in Van Nuys, I'll have to...
Read moreI contacted Misah regarding catering for my birthday party for 30 people. From the very start, Misah and his staff were polite, professional, and friendly. My wife took me to the restaurant for lunch to sample the food a couple of days before the party. Misah was very nice in person as well. The food was freshly prepared and very delicious. All the sides were good as well; the lentil soup, cucumber yogurt, and hummus. He offered us free desserts to sample. Their homemade baklava is so good. When they prepare your catering order, they cook the kabob close to your pickup time so that it is hot and fresh when you get home. They use very good quality containers for transporting the food. Our party guests loved the food so much that we barely had any leftovers for the next day. We will definitely eat at Chelo in the future. It is a small hidden gem...
Read moreAbsolutely delicious! We ordered five different entrees and three appetizers and two deserts! This food is not just great for the price, it's great at any price! Their version of lentil soup is surprisingly tangy and the perfect starter. The eggplant Babaghaniush was fresh and not oily at all and made for a great dip for their home made flatbread. The sirloin was lean, juicy, perfectly marinated, and super tender. The chicken kabob was lemony saffrony heavenly! I particularly liked the spicy minced chicken kabob that kept me guessing about the secret ingredient. Home made humus came in 3 flavors which also made great dips. Don't forget the jalapeño and the cucumber yogurt sauces. The Bahlava is light and just sweet enough and the rice pudding smells of rose water and...
