Generally I like the food here and I enjoy eating here somewhat often. No big complaints. But I stay away from the hot salsa sauces because of a certain reaction they cause for me later...hemorrhoids. Ouch. Ha, is that an additional reason why they named the place Cactus? Have to clarify here that I am referring to Their hot salsa sauces at Cactus, very important point. I like hot salsa sauces, and very very very very rarely do such sauces from other places give me hemorrhoids (for example, Sriracha is very hot and hotter than the Cactus sauces and it hasn't done that to me yet; I've also tried some other hot Thai sauces hotter than Cactus sauces, and they didn't do that). But the hot sauces from Cactus do that very dependably unless I put a very small amount. But the food is fine without those sauces, so I just no longer use them. I put a lot of lime juice on the tacos instead of the hot sauces, and that's better anyway (you can also try bringing your own hot sauce, one you have experience with). There's been one occasion when the beef in the beef taco didn't seem to be totally beef, but maybe that was just an impression of mine. This Cactus location is the closest one to me, my local one, and my favorite one. I love the beef tacos here (I've been here many times, but so far I've only gotten the beef tacos, my favorite) and I tried a few of their burritos and they're very good as well. The Cactus on Vine north of Santa Monica is very different in style and very different food compared to this location. Wasn't impressed by the tacos at that location. Not sure what effect the sauces over there have. Also not sure whether any other Google review here mentions such a reaction from the Cactus hot sauces. But if it happens after you eat at Cactus, now you know why, lol. I can't even recall when any other hot sauce (besides the Cactus sauces) gave me hemorrhoids, so indeed very very very very rarely does that happen to me because of a hot sauce (unless it's...
Read moreI hate to leave a bad review but I have to after this bad experience just now. I went with my kids and ordered 5 tacos on 3 plates and rice and beans. I thought the total sounded high but handed over the money intending to check the receipt and when I did I saw she overcharged me - saying I ordered 7 tacos. When I pointed this out immediately she told me that she couldn't give me my money back since she'd already taken it. Well, I did not order 7 tacos I ordered 5 I replied. I had to continue insisting I did not want the other 2 tacos and she told me to wait while she took everyone else's order and she would give me my money back. So after waiting patiently but frustrated she could not just resolve it on the spot, I calculated and with tax I should have gotten back at least $5 but she only gave me back $4.50 and when I mentioned I was also owed the extra tax she said she could not do that and it was my fault. I am a single mom and every bit counts for me! This is disappointing because I live in the neighborhood and would come here often but I felt she treated me this way because I was a white woman and felt it's ok just to keep my money for something I did not ask for and it was her mistake. She treated me very rude and insisted it was my fault. I decided not to come back and asked for full refund then which amazingly she then granted. So you couldn't give me my 50 cents that was clearly mine but you'll give me the full refund? I probably would have left a dollar tip like I usually do but this just really upset me and I don't feel we are welcome there. The message seemed to be she didn't want us there. So we won't be back sadly. The other lady who works there was always kind. i hope this lady is just having a bad day but still it makes me feel unwelcome at this neighborhood business I otherwise would...
Read moreThis was soooo horrible! The meat they use for asada was so excellent, which is why it’s such a disappointment. The staff was IMPRESSIVELY rude. They ignored the details to my order when I was ordering, cut me off speaking, of course, got my order wrong, then argued with me before fixing it that I never asked for “no cilantro.” They never told me that they will not give you any onion if you don’t want cilantro. They mix them and will not give it too you separate. I went back two other times and each time they got a different part of my order wrong, the meat, which toppings I wanted, aside from no cilantro. Each time not letting me know that I won’t get any onion on my taco if I don’t want cilantro. Also wait time was 20 minuets for two tacos the first 2 times and 40 minutes the last time I went. All three times the order was wrong in some way and I still needed to wait each time to have my order re-made correctly which they would do very quickly, and sloppy. 20% of the world population is genetically pre-disposed to not like cilantro, if you are one of these people- don’t go here, you will regret it. The last thing was my avocado was really gross. I don’t eat out to eat like that. I’m going to post the photo. The only lucky thing is once you get burned there- the neighborhood has MANY great taco trucks that DO give limes with tacos (for free. They charge me .50 even with tacos) ALL of them have onions not mixed with cilantro.
The owners have amazing recipes that the staff carry out with the...
