I visited this place on Saturday 29th to celebrate my wife's birthday around 12pm. It was close to where we live, so we dicide to give it a chance.
There are two entries to the restaurant, one is located in the parking lot behind the restaurant and the main one is infront of Beverly Blvd. We enter the restaurant by the main door, we were promptly greeted by one worker, who asked us how many we were? We answered that we were 2 adults and one child. She escorted us to one table available at the moment and we agreed with the recommendation. Seconds later another worker asked us if we need a highchair for my kid, to what we answered yes. Then another worker suggested another table, where we might have more space for my kid, to what we answer yes as well. Once seated, we asked for a plate of edamame, two plates of miso soup and two cokes. After 5 minutes, we had our entries that we ordered along with our drinks and small miso soup plate for my kid, we didn't order it but my kid didn't want to waste it, so we keep it for him. We didn't really know who our server really was since another person ask us if we were ready to order some sushi? We just dicide to go with the flow and order from her. We order the teriyaki chicken and two rolls, the tempura roll and the California tempura roll. 10 minutes after we ordered our main plates, our teriyaki chicken came with salad and lot of 1200 island sauce on the salad, not my favorite to be honest so I just eat the chicken and stealed some rolls from my wife, lol.
Rolls were ok, not the best ones but not bad, maybe I was hungry? My wife didn't finish her California roll, so it wasn't good enough for her. My wife mentioned that the cokes taste a little different, tasteless, with very low bubbles and I agreed with her but we were not sure since we haven't have one in a while.
One busboy asked us if we need something else? And suggested if we needed some water for my kid? We said yes and thanked him properly.
After that, we didn't get more help, we just saw many waitress walking around without really asking us if we needed something else, no water refill or any other kind of help. 20 minutes later we were given our check from another person without asking if the food was good or we need more drinks, I didn't even know if they had dessert lol. We got the check, asked for some to-go containers and leave.
Overall, food was ok, customer service was ok, parking location was great, maybe you need some more improvement in the interaction with your clientele and have some dessert menu, might not hurt?
3 starts for the food. 4 starts for customer service. 5 starts for parking location. 4 starts for price. 4 starts for ambiance.
Definitely will come back and see if we just...
Read moreLike many others reviewing, have been eating here for many years. Since their change in management/ownership the quality has gone down so bad. Everyone knows the economy is hard so when you go out to a sushi restaurant it's a treat. Why am I eating a one inch thick block of sashimi that's tough/not fresh tasting and like it's been sitting in the sashimi section at hmart for half a week while training to be the next Michael Phelps until it gets bought. I can understand thick cuts and have had thicker ones where you can taste the blade/careful part selection to be of higher quality. Not the case. Japanese cuisine often favors delicacy/ daintyness in cuts over thick steaks like the west, and that's a part of the enjoyable aspect. Before you think "oh it's takeout" ...no. my family always goes and gets me take out and I eat it asap for the past 10 years. Never like this. Just go to hmart and buy the salmon sashimi there for a better price & = or better quality. Am I nuts for bringing out a ruler... sure maybe why not. But that's how bad it was that it drove me to take a pic and write this long review. I always get the salmon sashimi, and sometimes their chicken teriyaki. It's my favorite food but i can barely finish eating this cuz it's so bad. All the people w good reviews/saying it's not that bad as the bad reviews make it, yeah you're new and don't know that this was a spot you could expect quality over your local suburb most convenient sushi place. The chicken teriyaki tastes like if public school food or something you could microwave from ralphs since the chicken meat is poor/average now. I've had mid chicken teriyaki before and I consider yoshinoya meat above this cuz it was so dry, tough,& full of the bad stringy parts. Maybe their other dishes aren't so bad, but avoid these if you don't...
Read moreAVOID, AVOID: new owners, new sushi chefs, careless service, sub-adequate food. They now prioritize take out over dine in. This has been my go to sushi spot for 20+ years. Went last Sunday for supper. It took forever to get a server visit and she ran off while I was still talking but we gave it a pass since they seemed short staffed. Next, I was scolded for not filling out my order form correctly. Still, we were cool, since we could see that other tables were also waiting for drinks and to order. 15 minutes to get drinks and one of 3 hot entrees. I ordered the sweet shrimp and was presented with the fried head only. It sat on the table getting cold while we waited another 52 minutes for a shrimp, our sushi and entree order. We could see that the kitchen and sushi area was busy but we realized that they were prioritizing take out while every table near me sat there with no food. Our tuna was watery, albacore mushy, crispy onions cold and soggy. We usually reorder 2 to 3x but after the first round we asked for the check. No itemized check, just a total and I was asked to calculate my tip in advance. As a favor I calculated the entire bill, tax and tip and totaled it. I was then scolded again by the server. As we left, we could see that no one, not even the sushi bar had much food in front of them. They made it gracefully through pandemic, even making changes to their cash only policy, but it's over. Find a new...
