Constellation Coffee is the definition of a hidden gem. It is far from the bustling, highly walkable Sunset Blvd, and even if one drives by on Glendale Blvd, they will likely miss this coffee shop retreated half a block behind the sidewalk. I found it because of its perfect rating on Google Maps. It turned out, contrary to my usual experience, I agree with the rating.
I'm not saying Constellation is perfect, it doesn't dazzle in any particular way either. Nonetheless it's good enough in every aspect that I could imagine everybody who comes here being happy with their experience. From coffee to service to shop space, Constellation's effort is evident and effective.
What differentiates Constellation from other overrated neighborhood coffee shops is that Constellation speaks in actions, first and foremost in making good coffee, not in big smiles and cheerful voices that conceal the casualness or incompetence in their coffee. In fact, Constellation's owner Kevin is a rather reserved person. I probably have considered him cold at the first sight. But when I had a sip of the excellent flat white and struck a chat, I realized my mistake of judging too soon. If anything, he is curious but laconic, and I enjoyed doing the talking part.
The one time that Kevin wasn't there, I had a fantastic cortado from Jeff. Just like Kevin, Jeff isn't the type of baristas that seek chitchats, but when we did interact a little, he genuinely engaged and shared some insightful coffee shop tips. In that moment, I wasn't his customer but a fellow coffee lover.
Because of its location, Constellation isn't a destination spot for me. Whenever I passed by though, I had a great experience. Coffee is always on point, so is the Hojicha Latte I once had. Their pastries are from Cake Monkey and honestly they are not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI came here after searching up what are some good co-working cafes in Silverlake, and after I saw the reviews and photos, I thought I'd stop by and get some work done for an hour or two.
I made my order and the employees greeted me and were nice, nothing out of the ordinary. However, the coffee was unfortunately very mid, and they put way too much milk. I don't think it's a big expectation to have coffee taste slightly better than the one I make at home, but unfortunately, it was worse than the coffee I make at home on my $100 espresso machine.
The bathroom smelled absolutely disgusting, like feces particles in the air, and it is not well ventilated or has any air freshener to get rid of the smell. This honestly set a really bad tone for my whole experience, because I couldn't get the smell out of my mind. It was nauseating and I feel like I could smell it from outside the bathroom as well.
There was a lady hysterically crying and being really loud on the phone in the back , which was really distracting and took away from the environment (I know this is not the cafe's fault but it added insult to injury).
Also, the chairs, which are just stools, were really uncomfortable and some of the tables were broken and wobbly. No wi-fi from what I saw.
Overall, my impression and feeling that I got from the cafƩ was that it wasn't really inviting, and they didn't really want you to stay there or spend time there. It was not well maintained at all, and the in person ambiance was not as nice as what I saw on the photos, which were much nicer than my experience as a whole.
I will not be coming back again, but I hope the management takes my review into account for these constructive criticisms for...
Read moreConstellation Coffee is a small coffee shop along Glendale blvd in Silverlake section of LA. They have one other location in La Cañada-flintridge.
Interior decor was adorable with plenty of natural light. Atmosphere was very relaxing with good music playlist. They have very small indoor space, so, seats are limited. However, they have some outdoor tables for customers. Moreover, they have a convenient parking lot.
I came early Friday morning and I was perfunctorily greeted with a soft tone by a tall young red haired male barista. I perused their menu and I ordered a hot Cappuccino (8oz). It was really smooth and perfectly made. You can tell the beans were of exceptional quality. They also have pastries albeit limited. Service was on point. Prices are very competitive but bare in mind they charge extra 4% on all credit card transactions. Menu on the wall are cash marketed price.
Overall, as a first time customer, I had a good order experience. I recommend this...
