I ordered food on the phone and paid for my meal to be picked up and I left my office and started to use Google Maps to find this burger joint that I had never eaten at and I wasn't familiar with the area. And Google Maps took me in the opposite direction so I called you know right after I ordered it and said hey I'm not going to make it to pick it up right away because Google sent me in a wild goose chase you know I'm starving I need to go back to work though because I've already gone past my my break time and I spoke to Danny and she assured me no problem you know things happen and that when I came you know an hour or so later that my food would be prepared to give it to me hot so with that being said my expectation was to get a hot meal cold drink on a hot day and that's not what happened. When I got to the burger stand they knew exactly who I was because they had prepared the meal originally when I called even though I spoke to Danny it didn't matter they still prepared the food and basically held it for that time frame until I picked it up and basically handed it to me cold in the bag they were kind enough to put more ice in my water down Coke so it would be a little more refreshing I asked him if they could warm the food and they told me no they couldn't I said but you told me I was going to get hot food I had told you what had happened and you still went ahead and made the food knowing that I wasn't going to be there right away to pick it up and Danny assured me my food would be hot when I got it it said that basically there was much they could do I paid $25 when I ordered it over the phone and they weren't willing to remake the food which shouldn't have been prepared because I did catch him in time not before they prepared it originally so I felt that they didn't provide the proper service and I'll Never Eat Here Again cuz where I come from there's something like that or somebody doesn't like the food or whatever it is you want to pacify the customer you want to make them happy but that wasn't the case here they were more concerned about their money or possibly you know one burger that went bad and couldn't give me a hot meal so I told him to keep their food and to give it to somebody else or a homeless person maybe if they were...
Read moreHype, publicity, clean image - restaurant, interesting theme - smash burger, food taste - under delivered. I just had a triple, and have 2 singles to eat later. My expectation of this place was too big, based on fandom and reviews. Basically the burger here taste like McDonald's cheese burger, but little better. That is all, nothing more, nothing less. There are bunch of really good smash burger shops across USA, including Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers in New Mexico. The burger here taste even less than an average backyard bbq burger from one of your co-worker's house. If you ever tasted a good smash burger, you would not be happy at BNSD. But if you want a McDonald's Quarter pounder but willing to pay more for little better taste, this is the place. I regret tipping on a pick up order for this place. This goes to tell you most people don't know what they are talking about when it comes to good food. Everyone jumps on a fandom bandwagon. Or I could be wrong. Maybe this was was better in the past and now the quality has gone done. Regardless, I am not coming back here again. Not worth the gas to come here. And yes, I agree with other reviewers; the burger taste very very salty. It leaves you thirsting for water for rest of your day. Basically in a nutshell, these burgers are McDonalds cheeseburgers that are bigger by 50% and the meat is burnt. The triple burger I had patties that are so thin that 3 patties combined was same size and thickness as one regular patty. Positives for this place: the workers here are very clean cut and nice. The burger shop has plenty of parking and looks clean which makes you feel good about their food. I just moved backed to L.A. after many years and now I feel insecure about trusting food reviews for L.A. restaurants. If the accuracy of reviews for BNSD is what a typical review for other restaurants in L.A., then I am in big trouble. I simply cannot imagine how anyone can give this place a 4 or 5 stars. Boggles my mind. I would buy these burgers if they were marked down by 50% but even then, there are better options. This place ain't no smash burger heaven. It is just McDonalds like cheese burger that is over salty and...
Read moreIf McDonald's, sometime in the mid-80s, decided to beat In-N-Out at their own game, by paring their menu down to the bare essentials, while also focusing on elevating their minimalist cheeseburger to gourmet status (you know the one: thin patty, squirt of ketchup & mustard, micro-diced onions, neon yellow American cheese), you'd have Burgers Never Say Die (or BNSD for short).
"The Regular" is the name of the main event here: two thin patties ("smashed" in the local lingo, apparently to ensure the edges of the patty are perfectly crisp), gooey golden (not neon yellow) cheese slices, on a sponge-bread bun with just a hint of golden-brown toasting on the cut edges. Top it all off with the obligatory squirts of ketchup & mustard and a thin-sliced pickle or two, and you have a moment of near-perfect burger excellent that, alas, seems gone too quickly (perhaps I just ate it too fast).
Fortunately, the french fries are also approaching perfection. Served hot after being thin-cut and fried in beef tallow (McDonald's apparently only "flavors" them to taste like beef fat), one might even argue that they're worth a trip on their own.
Also very enjoyable is the soft-serve provided by CVT, in either chocolate, vanilla, or swirl. My disappointment that they didn't serve it to you in a cone quickly went away after tasting the first spoonful of swirl. The chocolate half is very reminiscent of Wendy's Frosty dessert, while the vanilla definitely has the edge over Mcdonald's soft-serve (although I'd still like to see a cone in the future).
My only complaint are the prices. Bring at least $20 for a burger/fries/drink/soft-serve meal. Ouch. I didn't mind so much after the first bite. Otherwise, it's a great new burger joint in L.A.
