Damn. Let me start by saying I love Cookbook. Been going to the other locations for years. Sandwiches are always great and I was excited for the larchmont location to open. So i order the pancakes (which were good) but my partner gets the “fried egg with Sicilian oregano and crushed red pepper, arugula, and beylik farm tomato confit.” …Now that’s a lot of words for what is essentially a single fried egg on 5 leaves of arugula and 4 cherry tomatoes. Like I literally laughed when this $15 “breakfast” came out on a what is essentially a side order plate. It’s not even like a well constructed or interesting dish. An egg on arugula with a couple hot tomatos. That ain’t no confit darling. It didn’t come with bread or bacon. And if you wanted to add a side bacon, well, that’s gonna be an additional $16!? No, seriously. $16. It honestly felt insulting and I’m kind of embarrassed for the servers who have to put that dish in front of people knowing it is a laughable ripoff. No matter how many words they use to tell me where each ingredient is from, I will never be able to accept one egg for $15. This menu is downright disrespectful and feels like a social experiment to see how much people will pay for nothing in Los Angeles. Hope they make some adjustments otherwise I’ll stick to the prepared foods.

Super tasty food with LA prices (high price little quantity). Adding one more egg (little cost) will add much value. You order your food at the counter and a staff drops the food at your table. Cashier charged 20% tip without asking or giving an opportunity to add more or pay less. I ordered coffee but I was disappointed to find out that they don’t have cream. Expect slow service. New visit today since my daughter loooooves (loved as of today) this place. I’m lowering my rating to 2 stars. Ordered charcuterie dish. A meh. Two of the cheeses were good. Meager meat. No local honey. Iced tea was a yuk after her one sip. Something was wrong with the Chicken Paillard so she sent it back. The replacement tasted better but not the same before so she didn’t eat much of it if any. Baked Goat Cheese her other favorite was good. Adding not drunk iced tea shot and chicken.

Cookbook never disappoints, in a city always seen as erewhon city. I have to say that I’m really not an erewhon person anymore after so many bad experiences. Cookbook recipes and products are for me, a French person living in LA, just a one way ticket to paris. Their premade salads are amazing and made with fresh products. Same goes for their pies and pâtisseries and viennoiseries. I love their rye brownie. Maybe the best brownie ever!? Everyone working there for the most part is very passionate about food and cuisine. We had a Cesar salad, a chicken paillard, which could have been a bit more generous same for the salad as we expected it to be topped with anchovies, the potatoes were delicious and fresh, same for the soup, topped with pesto. I recommend this place 100% and will definitely go back. Hopefully they can solve the complicated parking situation.

I recently visited Cookbook and was extremely disappointed with my experience. The prices for their food and groceries are ridiculously high, far beyond what they're worth. They really skimp on their potions and the food is absolutely basic and BLAND. Worse yet, the service was appalling. The staff was incredibly rude, acting as if I was inconveniencing them by placing an order. The staff are extremely unorganized and don't care to communicate with each other nor with customers.

It was also made very clear that they profile and prioritize certain customers and completely ignore others. They helped people who had clearly been waiting far less time than my wife and I. We felt discriminated against and it was deeply unsettling and unacceptable. Additionally, I am aware that the owners also have a history of charging an 18% surcharge at many of their other restaurants in LA (such as Son of a Gun, Jon and Vinny's, etc), which seems like just another way they love to exploit their customers.

Overall, Cookbook is a place I will never return to, and I would advise others to stay...
