Dinosaur coffee does a great job at creating the feeling of a wooden jungle with the use of organic curves, natural materials, and foliage that resemble the natural habitat that a dinosaur would have lived in. This gives the theme a modern and architectural twist that's far from cheesy. I especially love the exposed beams, bright light from the ceiling and wooden shelves that run along the walls in fun lines. Personally, I think the natural shapes and organic materials create a great environment to focus in, as humans naturally feel less stressed when surrounded by shapes and colors that resemble nature.
The coffee is made in a small kitchen area right in the middle of the cafe, allowing you to walk fully around the space, constantly revealing more unique seating options. One can choose to sit out front, in the patio out back, at sharable tables inside, or even at the counter with a great view of the baristas! I found that anywhere you sit can be a great place for a laptop, book, a conversation or just your beverages and pastries.
Lining their shelves, they have an array of products for sale. Apparel, bags, mugs and of course coffee beans! Their coffee blends are roasted and crafted by the roasters at Woodcat, another local coffee shop in Echo Park that currently owns Dinosaur Coffee.
In all, you can count on Dinosaur coffee for uniquely crafted drinks, be it coffee or tea and can expect friendly and helpful service from it's baristas with a great work environment. 🦕

Read moreI write for a music and coffee blog called Crooners In Coffeeshops, in which I interview local musicians at local coffeeshops. My writeup reflects the positive experience that I encountered at Dinosaur Coffee on our interview date.
Coffee and dinosaurs – two of my favorite things that I never would have thought would go together so seamlessly. Well, Dinosaur Coffee in Silverlake definitely proved me wrong, and they incorporated the theme in a tasteful way. It’s so easy to think that you will walk into the space having to push past large dino decor and potentially fight against floaty green things (leaves, flowers, vines, and such) coming down from the ceiling. However, the decor definitely veers more on the chic and modern side than Jurassic Park with tiny painted toy dinosaurs hidden among the succulents, merch, front counter and tables. But be forewarned, it’s rumored that there may be a dinosaur hidden behind the bathroom door looking to trap you there.
Their menu consists of the classic brews, along with a few specialty drinks, displayed on a wooden wave styled menu perched up in the air with a case of mouth-watering pastries perfectly placed in eyesight as you go to check out at the cash register. While I would have loved some dino themed (and shaped) food and drink, I’m glad that they kept their overall business a coffeeshop with incorporated elements. Whether you’re there for an interview like me or coordinating a mini high school reunion (that literally occurred while we were walking in), Dinosaur Coffee is worth spending the day amongst the hipsters from the pleasant...
Read moreDo not spend your money here. I live right by Dinosaur Coffee so I often work at their coffee shop. Every time I visit I am hopeful that my coffee drink will be yummy, and I think it has been at least 4 times in a row that I order a drink and the espresso is completely burnt tasting.
The first time this happened I thought maybe it was just a one time thing, but after 3 more visits, it is evident that the baristas are not trained in dialing in espresso at all. As a barista, your job is to make the espresso beans taste amazing! Pulling a proper shot of espresso is the final step in the long process it takes for that coffee to end up in the mouth of a customer. It's honestly so sad and disappointing that time and time again this place cannot pull a proper espresso. I have given them so many chances again, and again, since I live so close by... I WANT to love the drinks here, but today was the last straw for me, and probably the last coffee I buy from this place unless they decide to retrain their baristas.
As someone who has worked in the coffee industry since 2018, I have learned time and time again what an espresso shot should taste like, and this place needs a retrain ASAP.
I ordered an iced Americano, you could literally taste the burnt grounds. Today I ordered an iced latte, and had one sip and literally could not drink it. It was a huge waste of money, but mostly just a disappointment in the small joy that it is having a coffee in the morning.
This place needs some management ASAP. It is simply lazy, lack of quality...
