We stayed at the Silver Lake Inn & Pool mainly for its great location, close to family, Silver Lake restaurants, and Los Feliz shops. Normally, we look for hotels around the $500/night range, but based on the photos and reviews, we decided to splurge and paid nearly double that for a three-night stay.
The good: The valet team was efficient and genuinely friendly, and the Marco Polo and pool staff were excellent, upbeat, attentive, and clearly working hard to make everyone feel welcome. The food was also really good. The pool area has a fun, social vibe with mostly thirty-somethings, a mix of travelers and locals. We enjoyed spending time there both days.
The not-so-good: Our room was cute and clean, but not very functional. As two people who work remotely, the lack of a desk (despite plenty of space for one) became frustrating quickly. There was a long counter full of items for sale but nowhere practical to work or organize things. The bathroom had just two tiny hooks and no other place to hang towels, no door hooks, no extra bars, so the only option was the floor. We opted out of daily room service, but if you’re staying here, I’d recommend requesting it so you can get fresh towels each day.
The chair in the room was very low, making it awkward to sit in or tie shoes, and the bed was surprisingly small, a double, even though the room easily could have fit a queen or king. It felt like style won out over comfort and practicality.
One issue we did have was noise. Every 30 minutes or so, something that sounded like a jet engine or turbine kicked on. We were on the second floor at the end of the hall, so it may have just been our room, but it made it tough to sleep.
Overall: The hotel has personality and style, and some great people working in the public spaces, but at this price point, the experience didn’t quite justify the cost. For what we spent, we could have stayed at the Four Seasons and probably would next time. Still, if you’re looking for a lively pool scene and convenient location, it hits those marks.
I hope management takes some of this feedback to heart. A few small comfort-focused changes could really elevate...
Read moreHad a wonderful stay on a joint work trip with my wife. We were in and out quite a bit, so the hotel ended up being the exact oasis we needed to relax and decompress after constantly being on the go. ||It's got a ton of character, and the quaint desert villa circa 1970s theme was polished and elevated. The beautiful tile flooring across the outdoor space, coupled with mesa like stone architecture, does a great job of transporting you into a vibe completely separate from the world on the other side of the walls. The king room we stayed in was clean, cool, and surprisingly open, making the space feel bigger than the sq footage lead on. A long tile bar ran the length of our long wall and was peppered with a plethora of unique snack and drink options; kudos for consistency in detail. ||I do wish they had slippers and a few other random items that I've grown accustomed to having at other hotels, but that's just the brat in me rearing it's entitled little head. ||Also, from a native speaking to anyone who wants to listen, the fact that there's even the option to stay here is a godsend. For generations you've had to choose between Hollywood, DTLA, or Glendale if you wanted to tap into any bit of culture the east side had to offer. This is a hop skip and a jump away from all the nostalgia I could ever ask for. Hey Los Feliz and Franklin Village, Highland and Echo Park, Atwater and Chinatown, it's nice to see you so close again. ||Vicinity is the icing on the cake for me, but the cherry on top, was hands down Carlos the valet. It isn't often I come across people as genuinely kind, warm, welcoming, and funny. As I mentioned we were in and out A LOT which meant a lot of hassle for him, but no matter the time of day during our week long stay, nothing but love and kindness came from him and his spirit. He's a treasure that needs to be saved at all costs and one of the many things that added up to a 10/10...
Read moreThis is one of those rare boutique hotels, where if you’ve been there a few times everybody recognizes you and welcomes you back. Everything is at peak cleanliness. Your bed is comfortable ( this is a big deal if you’ve been to enough hotels). The restaurant is amazing and I am always so impressed that so many people not staying at the hotel come to Marco Polo because it is such a great and consistently wonderful boutique restaurant. Amazing dishes. One night when I was there, there was a large wedding party who out of every restaurant in the Los Angeles area shows Marco Polo for their evening dinner celebration. That says so much. |I love the pool up on the top deck and spend time sitting up there reading and relaxing, even if I’m not in the pool itself . And of course, the staff from the restaurant come up and offer to bring you anything on the menu. |The best part of the hotel is that the staff are all so happy and greet you with a smile . It’s not just the Front Desk people like America or Amber, who are amazing. Juan Carlos, who parks the cars, greets me with a hug every time I’m there and it feels like he’s an old friend. Anselmo the breakfast waiter is always happy to see you in the mornings. Javier, the houseman is such a hard worker. I watched him cleaning up by the pool one morning, and he was down on his hands and knees, picking up the tiniest little bits of litter, and it seemed to me that this guy was treating this property like it was his own home. Patty, the housekeeping Director Bends over backwards to be of help, always with a “yes what can I do for you” attitude. And when I needed something, Oralia cleaned my room early also with such a smile. And all of this because Miguel, who is the assistant manager and the boss Gilbert clearly love their jobs and that ripples out to everybody , making every stay at Silver Lake Pool and Inn a wonderful...
